First Words

Here are the first words of all major -- and most minor -- characters from all five novels. Can you match character and quote?

NOTES:

• Lines are the first oral communication from each character.

• The idea is to match the character with the First Words we hear them "say" in the books.

• These are the first direct comments, not what another character tells us someone said (i.e., Dudley's first word, we are told by Petunia, was "Shan't" ["Won't" in US editions] but that isn't the first thing ***we*** "hear").

• Lines end at the first period, question mark, or exclamation point, or at end quotation marks.

• All punctuation (including comma splices) is the way J. K. Rowling had it in the UK paperback editions.
