Ah, the life I lead...My little Haruka. <3

Who is she, this "sognatrice"?  What the heck is a "sognatrice," anyway?
I am KonYume, Sogno dell'Anima, SoulDream.  The Dreamer.

This is my world.

My real name is Karen, though many call me Daria.  Daria Mezzanotte is one of the many characters I've created, and I use the name on the Internet sometimes, usually for role-playing.  I was born into a typical dysfunctional American family on February 2, 1981 along with my twin sister (who seems to take pride in the fact that she's a whole 13 minutes older that me).  I've rotted in the suburbs of New Jersey for the past 18 years, and I hope that going away to college next year will do me some good, even if I'm still rotting in New Jersey.

The driving force in my life is my art, though it alone cannot sustain me.  I think my goal in life is to create my ideal fantasy and in some way live through it.  Either that, or make it a reality, but that might be kinda scary.  Anyway, I like to draw pictures.  When I can actually translate something from my head onto paper, it gives me this strange little high that I can't quite explain.  It's addictive, like drinking Cherry Coke or inhaling the fumes of those fruit scented markers, so I keep doing it.  Basically, drawing is my life.

Of course, that's not all there is to me.  I'm in the process of choosing what college I want to attend for the next four years.  I don't want to go to an art school, even though I want to major in computer animation.  I need a variety of people and ideas around me, not just "art people" and stuff.  I'm also interested in a number of areas, and my inability to focus on one of them has its benefits and disadvantages.  I think that it's beneficial to get inspiration from a variety of sources, but it's hard to put dedication and emotional investment into too many things.  I try anyway, though, and I constantly have a million things going on at once.  That's just me.

The fact that I always have so many things running through my mind probably contributes to my insomnia.  I sleep very little, though I enjoy it very much.  It's just so hard to fall asleep, and when I do, I have to get right back up again.  That's why I live off of caffeine.  My being tired all the time doesn't help the fact that I'm extremely antisocial.  I've always been shy, but it's hard to get over that when I'm struggling to stay awake.  I also have trouble fitting into any one group of people.  Not that I want to be just part of a group; I take pride in being an individual.  I just don't like feeling so completely alienated from everyone around me all the time.  I suppose that's why I like the Internet.  I express myself better in writing than in speech, and it's much easier to find people with similar interests and be completely honest with those people.  I find it much easier to respond to people in writing...  I'm not really sure why.  I've never been a good conversationalist.  Part of that is because I have trouble hearing people clearly, and I can't separate background noise from speech all the time.  That's frustrating, but it's more likely that I just have no clue of what to say to a person.  But now I'm rambling...

So, just because I feel the need to focus on this ideal fantasy world of mine doesn't mean I have no outward interests.  I like computers, so I have this web site.  I like biology... I have no idea why, though.  It's just interesting.  I always love an intellectual conversation.  I have absolutely no interest in politics unless it directly affects me.  I'll register to vote, but I have no plans to pursue anything in that field.  There was a time when I had no interest in television, but that has definitely changed.  It's just a wonderful storytelling technique, and I consider myself a storyteller.  It was the X-Files that restored my faith in television, and I'm a devoted (if not obsessive) X-Phile.  I could go on and on about the show, but I should leave that for the X-Files portion of my site.  I also adore anime, since I love the drawing styles used and the fact that it's so dramatic.  Similarly, I find video games very entertaining, especially ones with anime-style character designs or involving storylines.  In some ways, they're the perfect form of interactive entertainment.

I have many more interests and a lot more to babble on about, but I'll leave that for here, my "What's New" page.  That'll give you an idea of what's currently going through my cluttered little head.
