A Gentle Man

A gentle man with a gentle hand
A gentle voice with gentle eyes
With gentle ears that were tricked by lies
A gentle dreamer torn apart
By the cause he had at heart

Awhile ago, not too long
An innocent time
Before it all went wrong
In a little cottage in the trees
Lived a happy family
A kindly wife, a niece held dear
And a gentle man all lived here
He was their guide, through good times and sad
But who would be there for him when the going was bad?
When he was lost, who’d show him the way home?
When he needed them most, he was alone.

The kindly wife died while giving birth
To a lovely daughter, filled with mirth
But through the joy, there were tears
For loving eyes that would be closed through the years
He was alone, he was lost, and he was blue
With a heart forever true
That was restless and wandering till it found
A cause that would give it’s wings landing ground
But trusting ears can be decieved
And he never saw
The loving eyes that for him grieved
His faith was selfless, he devotion pure
But as time wore on, his sight was obscure
The cause was corupted, and so was he
No longer the gentle dreamer would he be

But somewhere in that heart so closed
In a place where no one goes
The gentle dreamer lies and waits
For someone to set him free
And to free his heart eternally

Do not judge this misguided heart
Once so true, and now so black
For trusting eyes can be decieved
And trusting ears are willing to believe
In honeyed words, and noble dreams
Though they be not what they seem

A gentle man, with a gentle hand
A gentle voice with gentle eyes
With gentle ears decieved by lies
A gentle dreamer torn apart
By the cause he had at heart
