WHAT IS FIBROMYALGIA????????

Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes widespread pain all  over the body, fatigue and a sleep disorder along with many other symptoms such as IBS and memory problems.

The exact cause or causes of Fibromyalgia are not yet known  but it is thought that some kind of trauma may trigger it off. Right now there is no cure for Fibromyalgia but
reasearch is going on around the world. Treating this condition can be frustrating as there is no treatment that works for everyone. Self Help Groups and education are probably the best ways to deal with this condition as well as a gentle excercise programme.

There are no blood tests or x-rays which show any abnormality to diagnose Fibromyalgia. This initially led many doctors to consider the problems suffered by FMS patients
were all "in their heads" or that they had a formof masked depression. Extensive psychological tests have shown these impressions were unfounded. A physician's diagnosis of FMS is based on taking a careful history and the existence of tender areas in specific areas of muscle which are called "tender points". They are extremely tender to touch. Frequently, pressure over one of these areas will be so painful that the patient will feel like screaming out.

A very good friend of mine sent me this article and i wanted to share it with all of you....Thanks bb_doll

Malic acid and magnesium

Two of the new 90's diseases are chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia (FM). The medical society has had a hard time pinpointing what causes these syndromes and some have even been known to dismiss it as all being in your head. Most physicians now recognize CFS and FM as a painful, real medical condition. They are not psycho-somatic illness and should not be treated as such. Both of these illnesses deal with a lot of pain, sleep disturbances, chronic fatigue, depression, stiffness, gastrointestinal disturbances, anxiety, muscle spasms and cardiovascular problems. Anti inflammatory medicines and analgesics generally do not relieve these painful symptoms. Deficiencies of certain nutrients have been related to these disorders as well as extreme stress or trauma.

One of the main nutrients the body may be deficient in is the mineral magnesium. Aluminum toxicity has also been related to these disorders. Magnesium is needed to block the toxic effects of aluminum. An overabundance of aluminum in the body inhibits the breakdown of sugars needed for ATP production and storage in the muscles. In times of physical exertion the body becomes fatigued easily and encounters a lot of pain. The pain results from the body having to break down muscle tissue for energy which results in aching, pain and fatigue in the muscles.

Not only does magnesium block the effects of aluminum but it also helps in the synthesis of ATP and has a relaxing effect on the muscle tissue itself. Another known nutrient deficiency is that of malic acid. Malic acid is found in abundance in the vegetable kingdom and especially in apples and other fruit acids. Malic acid plays an important  part  in  sugar metabolism and in the foirnation of ATP. It does this by increasing the utilization of substances needed for ATP synthesis. Malic acid is one of the best detoxifiers of aluminum in the body and has also been found to eliminate ammonia which is very toxic to the brain and liver. By combining both magnesium and malic acid CFS and FM sufferers have found tremendous relief from pain and fatigue.

Other points to remember with these conditions is that they seem to bc related to stress and endocrine imbalances of the hypothaIamic~pituitary~thyroid axis. Cardiovascular health should be improved as well as improving neurotransmitter function in the brain with natural herbs such as ginkgobiloba and lecithin. If your body is in a state of debilitated health such as CFS or FM remember it did not happen over night. It takes a lot of physical and mental abuse for your body to be in this sort of state. To get it back to the healthy state it should be in, will not happen over night also. Give your body some tender loving care with the proper nutrients it needs, taking time out to relax and relieving some of the stress in your day. Make health a habit.
