JIM RIMER PILOT DEN Blown Tires If this incident is the same as the one I remember, Duane Cook was the Captain and Jim Rimer was the F/O. Actually, it wasn't a case of blown tires, it was a case of maintanence management going cheep and buyin lousy re-treads. The treads left the airplane and Duane and Jim ended up landing on the rims on the #2 side as I recall. They did a superb job. Sadly, Both Duane and Jim have lined up on Runway 27 for their flight West. Jim many years ago from a heart attack and Duane a couple of years ago. Duane Had gone to CO after the UAL - FAL debacle. Jim had a son that was a F-16 pilot now with United. Another son was with America West in a non-flying capacity some time back (I don't know where he went though) and a third son was a Navy pilot (as I recall). All three were GREAT kids. If you knew Jim Rimer, that wouldn't surprise you. -Billy Walker (1/31/99) The blown tire incident occurred August 5, 1982 at DEN. Flight 194 to Atlanta with 97 passengers and 5 crew members blew both left main tires on take-off. Duane was Captain and Jim FO - both were 58 years old. They burned off some fuel and came back in so smoothly that 95 of the passengers boarded the next flight out. Super job by both pilots. It was a new aircraft that Frontier had received 6 weeks before. Info from DENVER POST, 8/6/82 courtesy of Ken Schultz (The newspaper must be wrong about the ages because the SSDI lists both born in 1934 so they would have been 48) -Jake Lamkins (10/4/99) I didn't visit Duane Jake, I called him at the hospital. He sounded happy to hear from me but I don't recall what day it was. He died within a few days of my call, but I'm glad that I got to speak to him. As for Jim Rimer...... don't know the cause, but Jim was a good man. Flew S/O when I was F/O on B-737. -Clyde Hart (10/5/99) I was flying with Jim Rimer his last trip, and I recall that he just wasn't feeling well the whole last day. It was more like just feeling tired or having indigestion. Later, we heard that he had gone home and had a heart attack either at home or after his wife took him to the hospital. Nice guy to work with. I remember his wife calling me later wanting to hear anything that he might have said or done on the last trip just to give her some peace of mind and closure. -Donna Harrison (11/24/00) JIM RIMER Born 18 Oct 1934 Died Nov 1983 Age 49 At 80014 (Aurora, Arapahoe, CO) SSN isued in Missouri -SSDI (5/12/03) Jim Rimer died Nov. 28, 1983. -Ken Schultz (Ken sent the FL bulletin about Jim's death.)
