Remembering the Palomino....................... The boots of virtually every country singer who is, was or ever wanted to be a star have ambled across the dusty floor of North Hollywood's Palomino Club. A Honky-Tonk of days gone by. The club was a popular hangout for many people from the 50s until 1995, the singers, the country, blues, rock bands remember...... The club was born in 1949. It stood second only to Nashville's venerable Grand Ole Opry. Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Emmy-Lou Harris, Jim Reves, Buck Owens, Eddie Rabbit, Kenny Rogers, Crystal Gayle, Marty Robbins, Roger Miller, Glen Campbell and Barbara Mandrell played there. After many years of high ranking, it changed from country to rock and surf bands in the late 80s and 90s with still appearances of country bands. The Club was sold and is no more! Where once crowds stood in line to see their favorite singers perform, stands nothing, but a changing neighborhood. The area was an industrial one where many young actors and cowboys used to live. Now the club is closed. Another era has passed.
