J. LAURENCE NOEL, JR. 1921 - 1999
On Sunday 10/10/99 Larry Noel, Jr LCT(A)2425 passed away at Gettysburg Hospital
as a result of complications from Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS).
Just eighteen days before the invasion of Normandy, Larry was plucked from
being skipper of LCT 615 and assigned as relief officer of the LCT(A)2425.
They successfully discharged their tanks and dozer at H-hour on Easy Red.
On their second load that day, carrying First Division troops, they were
damaged by gunfire and were forced to abandon the craft on the beach and
join the army ashore.
At the 12th reunion of the LCT Flotillas of World War II ETO PTO, Larry accepted
the role of historian for the group. After four years of research, several
visits to the National Archives and hampered by illness, Larry presented
phase one of the LCT history at the reunion in Denver last May and can be
