OAK ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE

Oak Island Lighthouse was built in 1958 by the Coast Guard to aid ships entering the Cape Fear River. It is constructed of reinforced concrete and the lantern frame and floor of the lantern room are constructed of aluminum. It stands 169 feet and uses an airport beacon rather than a Fresnel lens. The colors were mixed in the concrete as it was being built so it never needs painting.

To get there take state 133 towards Caswell Beach when 133 ends continue for several miles to the Coast Guard Station located near the end of Caswell Beach. This lighthouse is part of the Oak Island Coast Guard Station and is not open to the public.
