Back In The 50's
Visitors:

I AM NYGAL48,(SHY DI). WELCOME TO MY 50'S SITE. I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR VISIT!

If you wore a poodle skirt or a D.A. hairdo, you probably were a child of the 50's. You know that library paste tastes like wintergreen and you had an original pez dispenser. Let's take a look back when life was much simpler and carefree.

Remember When?

Sneakers were only made of canvas and came in black or white?

When moms were always home and didn't have to work. Their job was being mom.

Your friend's mother had the authority to spank you.

Jeans were called dungarees.

You know the words to "Purple People Eater."

Toys worked with mind power, not battery power.

You respected your teachers.

Everybody had one phone, in one color (black), only one phone number and there was one phone company. Remember having a party line. No dial on the phone. Had to talk to the operator.

Pink shirts didn't bother you. Pink was a popular color then.

Pierced ears were the rage, but your mom thought they were for girls who were too fast.

Remember slumber parties? A bunch of girls sleeping over at a girlfriend's house, staying up all night talking about boys, and doing each other's hair, and listening to their favorite music.

Your neighbor got a little box with a fuzzy green screen called a television.

It snowed more on your TV than outside your house. On TV you saw more "Please Stand By" than the actual shows.

Do you remember you put on your ears to watch The Mickey Mouse Club.

Remember when you could go to the gas station to get gas, and they cleaned your windows, pumped your gas, and even gave you S & H Green Stamps and a glass. I don't remember how much gas cost back then, but it was just few cents and plus you got all these extras!

Of course we need gas to get to the Drive-in

It was about $1.00 for a carload, and as I remember sometimes there was a trunk load too! We parked in the back rows until everyone got out of the trunk. Then moved up front, closer to the big screen. Then go get your burgers and fries. Weren't burgers and fries the best then!

For movies poster of movies that played at the drive ins in the fifties click on car below. The site you're about to enter is not mine and I take NO credit for it, but it is an AWESOME site, so please give credit where credit is due.

I know a lot of time was spent at another kind of drive-in. Yes, the place where you could go to get food and not have to leave your car. Remember the girls used to come out and take your order, then bring your food out, and hang the tray on your car door. Sometimes they even did this on roller skates.

REMEMBER WHEN:

Cars had fins, but they didn't make them seaworthy.

Your two-wheeler was a Schwinn and it only had one speed.

You know why kids rolled up the right leg of their dungarees.

A computer was something you saw in a movie and it took up the whole room.

Every neighborhood had a girl named "Cookie."

Ice cube trays were metal and had levers.

Leather was black and T-shirts were white.

You had to get up to change the channel.

You never questioned Uncle Miltie's sexual preferences, even when he was in dress and full makeup.

You knew a girl had a Saturday night date if she spent the day in rollers and a kerchief.

We wished we looked like Sandra Dee, surfed and had a boyfriend like Moondoggie.

"Duck and cover" drills were as common as recess.

Remember

Elvis and Marilyn were on our minds-and still are.

You liked Elvis or Pat Boone, but never both.

You know what a peanut gallery is.

You know what Davy Crockett was king of.

"Brusha, Brusha, Brusha, with new Ipana."

A scooter was something made of a piece of two-by-four with a skate and wooden crate nailed to it.

You wore your cardigan backwards.

You found your thrill on Blueberry Hill.

proms were held in school gym.

You used a "church key" to open your beer.

You remember Elvis from the waist up.

People in commercials smoked and drank.
