I looked all around me,
Still, I did not know;
Just what was so wrong,
So, my blankets…off…I did throw!
Then, switching on my light,
My eyes did scan the room;
`Round the room…I looked,
And then, to the ceiling…they did zoom!
There it was…THERE’S A LEAK!
Drip…drip…drip…drip;
What a shock…what a surprise,
It made my heart do quite a flip!
Think now…think now,
What can I or my Dad do?
Not much…while still dark outside,
I’d have to wait the night through.
But, in the time being,
A bucket…I did fetch;
There…now all that I can do,
So, out on the sofa…I did stretch!
When morning came…I told my Dad the news,
He said my roof had quite a leak;
Some help…he would need,
And, a repairman…he did seek.
“THERE’S A LEAK!”…he shouted,
All excited…on the telephone;
“I’ll be there as soon as I can,”
Said the repairman…his voice in monotone.
Well, Dad waited many hours,
And, after a climb upon the roof;
The repairman repeated to us,
“THERE’S A LEAK!…upon your roof.”
It didn’t seem to phase him,
To him…it was just routine;
But, to my Dad…it was tragic,
And, he was feeling kind of mean!
Dad told him to, “Go to it”,
And then, he went for a long walk;
He wanted to see results…fast,
But, he didn’t want to waste time…with talk.
Dad stayed away as long as he could,
And, when he returned;
There it stood…in all its glory,
Truly…the repairman…his pay had earned!
The roof…in tip-top condition,
Almost better than when new;
No more drip…drip…drip…drip,
Sleepless nights for me…not even a few!
