"FORGETFUL!"

Have you become more FORGETFUL,
With each passing year?
Have you noticed that…about yourself,
If not…well, just wait…my dear!

I thought that I was ‘different’,
Surely, nobody would understand;
I was afraid to mention being FORGETFUL,
At least…that had been my plan!

One day, I began to notice,
That some friends…just about my age;
Why, they were getting really FORGETFUL,
It wasn’t in style…not even the latest craze!

A memory like a computer,
Yes, fine-tuned…that was me;
Ask me anything at all…anything,
I’d have an answer – quick as could be!

Well, that’s all over…done away with,
For ‘right now’…I don’t recall;
Just ‘why’ I went into a room,
I couldn’t tell you…not at all!

But, on the other hand…amazingly,
Years ago…comes into my view;
Now, I can recall almost anything,
That happened years and year ago…'tis true!

People that I’d not thought of,
For…oh, so many years;
Now, their faces pop into my memory,
Even their names…bring many tears!

What a strange paradox…this thing is,
Facts have been reversed…in my mind;
Today…a blur – and yesterday,
Clear as a bell…I find!

It’s called ‘short term memory’,
That’s what has left me flat;
What a strange feeling…these days,
Now, what do you think of that?

Until you reach my age…don’t laugh,
Because, happen to you…it will;
Nothing to fear…though…really,
FORGETFUL…can be quite a thrill!

This is the time to write about your past,
For, suddenly it becomes very clear;
Autobiographies…it’s time to write them,
Being FORGETFUL…except for by-gone years!
