MY FAVORITE STORY TELLER

I had A Great Uncle named Merritt,
Who would tell the most fabulous tales;
He would mesmerize…captivate,
His words hold us spell-bound…never fail.

He would begin each happy story,
With the very same phrase;
“When I was a little ‘girl’…”
Our childish attention…amaze.

With all eyes focused upon him,
The story…he would begin;
Amongst squeals of delight…his story took flight,
And, sometimes he would let us join in!

Tales filled with imagination,
Adventures that few girls do have;
We’d follow him on his journey,
Then, we’d laugh and we’d laugh and we’d laugh!

MY FAVORITE STORY TELLER,
My favorite Great Uncle was he;
He brought joy to our hearts,
There was nobody…quite as funny as he!

A wonderful story teller,
He made you feel you were right there;
So descriptive was he,
With each story that he did share.

And, when ‘she’ had a tea party,
Dear Uncle would take out Auntie’s tea set;
With his ‘pinky finger’ extended,
We would…hysterical get!

Sometimes we’d roll on the floor,
The laughter reached such a high pitch;
We thought we’d explode,
We just couldn’t contain all of it!

At every family gathering,
We looked forward to what he would say;
Each story far-surpassed the last one,
I think he planned it that way.

MY FAVORITE STORY TELLER,
My favorite Great Uncle was he;
He brought joy to our hearts,
There was nobody…quite as funny as he!

While the women were busy preparing,
A meal that was fit for a queen and a king;
Great Uncle Merritt was doing his part,
The children…he was entertaining.

When he raised his voice…up,
And, a soprano he would be;
We’d laugh ‘til our sides hurt,
And, his eyes would sparkle with glee!

I’ll never forget my childhood,
And, the joy…as he did his act;
Oh, the happy memories he fostered,
The stories stronger than fact.

Now, it’s truly a privilege,
To follow in Great Uncle’s footsteps;
And, I shall say to my children,
“When I was a little ‘boy’…”.

MY FAVORITE STORY TELLER,
My favorite Great Uncle was he;
He brought joy to our hearts,
There was nobody…quite as funny as he!
