CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

On The Road Again

The three of them drove south, looking for work all the way...there wasn't anything for a man who had been out of electronics for so many years; its the kind of work that is continually changing. Joe prayed that the Lord would open just "one door" for work for him.

They drove as far south as the middle of Washington state - to a place that Joe's sister Patti's husband had connections with, and there wasn't anything even there. They began driving back up the coast; they spent more time in the Richmond area, because this is where the young man's family lived, and they stayed with them for a few days.

Then, just "one door" opened; it was in a kitchen cabinet shop in Richmond; they knew Joe had to go north to get all of us and would start work a few days later. He looked around Richmond, for a place to rent and got a duplex on Agassi Street; it was a fairly new complex of duplexes, each street was like part of a "maze" (hard to get into and even harder to get out of); then they headed north.

Of course, in Fort St. John, the month of April was "spring break-up" and there was still a lot of snow, especially in the bush. We didn't look forward to moving in such weather. We rented a small U-Haul trailer and the young man hitched it to his truck; he also loaded the back of his truck - we filled the station wagon as much as we could, but mostly with all our family. We turned in our keys at the little house, thanking them for letting us rent from them, when we needed a place so very much. We took "Tiny" with us, "Rusty" was no longer with us. And, off we went…looking for a new place to live, in the “Sunny South”.
