How to Make an Ice Bowl
Fan-cee!
---
This is from Sue: Last night in cooking class we made a lot
of little neat things for decorating the table. One thing we did practice
on
(and the instructor had already made and had it sitting out for
over two hours)
was an ice bowl. It was so neat.
We took one 6 qt bowl and one 3 qt bowl and filled the larger bowl
1/2 way
with DISTILLED water.
Then we put the smaller bowl inside the other bowl and taped it
down with
freezer tape. Let it stick up a little above the bigger bowl.
Then we took fresh flowers and arranged them around the sides
along with greenery. Freeze the bowl for 2 days. Take out and let
sit til you
can remove the bowls. You have a perfect ice bowl very clear
and
beautifully decorated.
One bowl she had sherbet balls in... the other she had shrimp.
---
Place the bowl on a silver tray...that has sides of course...place
a few paper towels on it and then place a decorative doiley on top of that.
Put the ice bowl on that.
It is so beautiful. In two hours it melted some but if you
just
drain the water off the tray every hour...it doesn't really melt
all that fast. It was still
beautifulafter two hours.
She put it back in the bowl...put the other bowl inside..and filled
the sides back up
and taped it down and put it back in the freezer for another time.
Don't run water in it to get it out. It will crack the bowl and
destroy it. Let it thaw out naturally to remove from bowls.
You have no idea how beautiful this is. I plan on doing this for
my buffet table
for Easter and fill it with shrimp.

Another note: I've seen this in a magazine. and it did look
beautiful.
but they did it with 2 coffee cans, so it would hold
a bottle of wine.
