LCD Hood for Mavica

Because the LCD screen image is almost impossible to see when a bright sun is behind one, I constructed this hood out of parts, available at the local hardware store.

I picked them up at the local Ace Hardware store.
They are made out of rubber or soft palstic. Manuafacrured by Fernco and called PlumbQwik. They are pipe couplings for sewer and drain pipe use.
The big one is 2” to 2”. (P1056-22)The smaller one is 1 1/2” to 1 1/4” (P1056-150/125). They cost about $3.50 each. Using only the big one is probably sufficient but I added the smaller one to serve for the most extreme circumstances. Although the small hole is only 1 1/4” in diameter, the whole screen will still be seen. I left both steel bands on the larger coupling, one of them to help secure the Velcro strip, the other to keep the smaller coupling from sliding in too deep. A small patch of Velcro on the camera, just above the flash window, is all that’s needed to keep the assembly in place. All camera controls remain accessible.
