Purchasing Your Deck

Tarot decks can be purchased at a number of places. The best selection will probably be found at a Wiccan or new age store. If these are not available in your area, then I recommend a regular book store. Deciding which deck to buy is easy and fun. However, you should not buy a deck that has less than the standard 78 cards and all 24 cards of the Major Arcana. First, take a look at the decks the store has to offer. See if there are any that jump out at you right away. Is there one you feel very strongly for? If so, you should probably buy it. If there are several decks 'speaking' to you, close your eyes and pass your hands over each one. Feel the energy that surges through you. With your eyes still closed, pick a deck based on the feel of its energy.

Storage Of Your Cards

This subject is really a matter of personal preference. Most people like to wrap their deck in a purple or black cloth. This keeps them safe from outside energies and influences. Some simply put them back in the box they came in. This too is acceptable, but you should then place them in a wooden box, or some other natural fiber container to keep them free of outside energies.

Preparing Your Cards For Divination

When you bring your cards home, and eagerly unwrap them, take a while to study each and every card. This is very important. You need to feel the cards energy and they need to feel yours. Look at each picture carefully. Note the colors that were used, the images and their placement. Clear your mind, and visualize the picture on each card. Think to yourself what the picture must mean. What does it look like to you? What would you say the meaning was without ever seeing a definition? There are 78 cards to look at, so make sure you have plenty of time set aside to do this. I can't stress enough how important this excersize is! Finally, when you go to bed, place the cards under your pillow. They can be wrapped in cloth, or even in the box they came in. Sleep with them there for at least 7 consecutive nights. Upon waking in the morning, place them somewhere where they won't be disturbed during the day. By doing this, you are placing your energy inside the cards.

Reading The Cards

After the above steps are accomplished you are ready to do a reading. Again, let me say it is better not to use the book that came with the cards. The energy from the cards is inside you, and vice versa. This is all you need to give an accurate reading. Begin your reading by clearing your mind, and visualizing your third eye opening. Also visualize your crown chakra opening. Never read from your heart chakra, or you may be too emotional to give a good reading. The next step is up to you. I personally shuffle my own cards, and do not like others to touch them at all. You may not feel this way, and that is fine. If you want the querant to shuffle, hand them the cards and tell them to concentrate on their questions. The only information I like to use is the person's full name. When said 3 times, I get their vibration and the cards do the rest. You may choose to have your querant repeat their questions aloud. The call is up to you. Whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. Make sure before you begin to spread the cards, you have good concentraion. It is essential to have a quiet place to do readings. Noise is way too distracting and you tend to send the cards mixed signals they don't understand. You must be focused totally on the reading. The spread of the cards is also up to you. You may choose to do a Celtic cross or some other popular spread. Lay them as you feel they should be. For me it is different for each reading. Sometimes, I cut the deck and choose a card. It depends on what the cards are saying . As you begin to spread the cards, you will get pictures in your mind. They may not be the same as the pictures on the cards. That's O.K. Concentrate on them, they are the reading itself.

NOTE: Never, ever for any reason fortell death in a reading! If you see or feel something that looks like death, place it in a positive context. Such as, "There is change coming soon, all life exists because of change." "Sorrow and renewal are always part of change." "Nothing can grow unless it changes." Other than that rule, you may tell the person anything you feel is important. Thoughts will come in to your mnd as you gaze at the cards. Put them into words, and you have your reading. I hope this brief instruction works well for you.
