Tobias Stansbury

Tobias, son of Detmar and Renske Stansbury, was born about 1652 or 1653 and died April 23, 1709 in Baltimore County, MD. He married Sarah Raven, daughter of Luke Raven, Sr. in 1677 in Baltimore County, MD. He arrived in Maryland with his parents in 1658.

Tobias' Lands

Sarah Raven, daughter of Luke Raven, was born about 1660 in Virginia. Her brother was Luke Raven, Jr. Loch Raven, a man-made lake in the northern part of Baltimore County is named for the Raven family.

Sarah died about 1714.

Daniel Stansbury was born in 1678 in Baltimore County along with his younger twin brother, Thomas and died April 7, 1763. He married Elizabeth Richardson about 1714 in Baltimore County and later married Sarah (last name unknown).

Thomas Stansbury, twin of Daniel, was born in 1678 in Baltimore County and died May 4, 1766 at his home in Back River, Baltimore County, MD. He married Jane Dixon Hayes about 1709 at Great Falls, Gunpowder River, Baltimore County, MD.

Luke V Stansbury was born in 1689 in Baltimore County, MD and died March 25, 1742 in Baltimore County. He married Jane (last name unknown) about 1714.

Tobias Stansbury was born in 1691 in Baltimore County, MD and died in 1764 in Baltimore County, MD. He married Honour Bowen about 1720.

Samuel Stansbury was born about 1694 in Baltimore County, MD and died in April 1783 in Baltimore County, MD. He married his first wife (name unknown,possibly Mary) about 1720. He married Mary Ann Cullison (Colston)May 24, 1777. He was a minor when his father, Tobias, died in 1709.

Tabitha Stansbury was born about 1700. She was a minor when her father, Tobias, died in 1709.

Poplar Neck

Tobias was quite young when he arrived in Maryland with his parents in 1658. Records show that he started to acquire land for himself at a very early age. In January 1670 or 1671 when he was 17 years of age 100 acres of land in Baltimore County called "Poplar Neck" were assigned to him from George Yate of Anne Arundel County. The patent is dated July 10, 1671. In the Baltimore County rent rolls, the date of the survey of Poplar Neck (which lay on the south side of Bear Creek) is given as Jan 16, 1672 and possessor, Tobias Stanborough was a member of the Baltimore County March Court in 1683 or 1684. Baltimore County Rangers

In 1695 he was a member of the Baltimore County Rangers under John Oldtown. These rangers patrolled as far as Garrison in the western part of Baltimore County.
