Gambler's Game

The town of Riverbend, along the Mississippi. The Maddogs are here in an allyway with someone.

"You the infomer we were told about?" says Outlaw

"Yes. I'm Wylie Potts. Have you ever heard of Donavan Bell?"

"The guy who owned that dognapping ring and kidnapped Olivia Peru?" says Beowulf

"That's him. Unfortunatly I'm stuck under his thumb. I quit from his business, he'll have me killed. He runs a gambling casino on a riverboat called the Dixie Princess. He's guilty of a lot of crimes."

"Why can't the police arrest him?" says Silver

"He has an official pardon from the governor himself. He can't be arrested."

"Governor Fuller?" says Outlaw "Indicted on 10 counts of bribery?"

"Indicted but not convicted." says Wylie "Your my only hope of getting out from under him."

"Not to worry Mr. Potts. We'll get him out of the state."

"How? He's got a bunch of guards on the boat when it's going."

"Let us worry about it."

Later that night, Beowulf is seen sneaking onto the boat. He comes into the main gambling hall. Without warning the lights turn on and Beowulf is seized by two baddies. Donavan Bell and another man with a scare along his face come out.

"Well well. What have we here?" says Bell "What do you think Mr. Hatchet?"

"An intruder to me Mr. Bell. And an ugly one at that."

"You ain't exactly winning any beauty prizes yourself." says Beowulf

"String him up on the spinning wheel."

The baddies tie his hands and legs to thw wheel and step back.

"Ever wonder how Mr. Hatchet got his name?"

"Umm...a cruel childhood taunt that stuck?"

He picks up a hatchet from the table and throws it. It hits the wheel in between his legs.

"Gambler's Luck mutt." says Bell "Your going to need it."

Donavan starts the wheel spinning.

"Whoa! I'm sure a lot of people would pay good money for a ride like this!"

Hatchet picks up another one and throws. Beowulf grabs the spoke at the top and the wheel stops, and the hatchet snaps the band around his arm. He frees himself and starts to run outside. Hatchet throws another and it hits the doorframe just as Beowulf runs out.

"Let him go. He won't be back." says Bell

Later with the Maddogs.

"Gambler's Luck was on my side. What now."

"We wait until Mr. Bell takes his boat out." says Outlaw

The next night, the Dixie Princess goes out onto the river with many gambler's. The Maddogs have gotten on board as regular gamblers thanks to Wesley's changeling belts. One by one the guards outside are knocked out. In the boat's wheelhouse...

"Evening Captain."

Outlaw decks the captain. He takes the wheel and begins to steer it toward the opposite shore where numerous cops are waiting. Inside the gaming hall everyone gets knocked around when the boat hits the shore and numerous policemen begin to board the craft.

"Donavan Bell your under arrest for murder."

"I believe there's been a mistake gentlemen. If you look at this document you'll find that I'm absolved of all crimes in this state."

The Maddogs come into the gaming hall.

"'Friad not Mr. Bell." says Outlaw "Your in the wrong state."

Outlaw takes his document and shreds it.

"Take them away."

"Hello Hatchet." says Beowulf "Miss me?"

"Grrr! By several inches."

Wylie Potts house, several days later.

"I can't thank you enough."

"No problem. Just one thing: next time check out your boss and see if he's a criminal or not."

"Trust me I will."
