Gem Quest

"I got it!" says Wesley "Setting course for Itilia V."

"You sure you got the coordinates right?" says Outlaw

Wesley stares at Outlaw.

"Right. Dumb question. Let's move then."

"Yes sir."

"What's so special about this gem?" says Rif

"Your joking right?" says Beowulf "The Immortal Gems originated there. How do you think were still around while all of our friends are dead? Even General Parvo went after it."

"And if this Krr'lak is any indication he's likely to carry out his revenge on the Cutani." says Outlaw

"Why not let the Cutani take care of it?" says Tundra

"I think we should trust them on this." says BJ "The Cutani are bound to louse it up."

"Ladies and gentledogs, Itilia V." says Wesley "Right on the money."

"Silver?"

"I read debris scattered in a large area. Probably once a city. Home to an advanced species."

"I've got Krr'lak ship." says Beowulf "It's parked outside a temple."

"That must be where the gem is. Wesley, prepare to beam us down."

In a deserted temple Krr'lak and half a dozen of his people are walking through a corridor.

"Klak'trr?"

"My scanner says it's in the large room just up ahead."

"Vengeance will be ours my friends. Come!"

They enter a large chamber and there on a dias is the last Immortal Gem. Krr'lak walks up to it.

"At last!"

"Freeze!"

They all turn to see Outlaw, Beowulf, BJ, Tundra and Miles standing in the entrance weapons drawn.

"You cannot stop me!" shouts Krr'lak

Outlaw fires at the gem to destroy it. But it just absorbes the shot then begins to glow an earie green.

"It's power is wonderful." says Krr'lak "Gem! Make me and my kind Immortal!"

"No."

Everyone blinks.

"No? You will do as I command!" shouts Krr'lak

"This unit and the planet must be destroyed to prevent falling into the wrong hands."

The temple begins to shake in an earthquake. A crack opens up just underneath Krr'lak and he just manages to hold on to one of the ledges.

"Help me up you fools!"

The ground shakes again and molten lava pours at the bottom of the opening.

"I think we should get out of here!" says BJ

"This cannot be!" raves Krr'lak "I demand vengeance!!"

A section of the ledge that Krr'lak's holding on to breaks away and he falls."

"Wesley, get us all out of here!" says Outlaw

They all fade away as the transporter beam takes them away and desposits them on the Whitney.

"Maximum speed Hawk! Get us out of here!"

"Were gone!" says Wesley

The Whitney jumps into SpaceDrive just as the planet explodes.

"What do we do about them?" says Beowulf

Outlaw notices the remaining Kzatti standing together.

"Well?"

"We do not share Krr'lak's hunger for vengeance. We are tired of all the fighting."

"Why didn't you say so?"

"To do so invited immediate death. Even in the old days, to refuse to fight meant a death sentence. We wish asylum from the Cutani. Please."

"You believe this guy?" says Beowulf

"I do." says Outlaw "I've seen enough death myself. Granted."

The Kzatti all look relieved.

"Thank you."

New York station. Jason and Martin are talking in Sinclair's office.

"So from now on, New York station will be a haven for all Kzatti who are tired of fighting.

"The Cutani won't like this."

"I don't care what they like. Slaughtering an entire species is wrong. Even with the Kzatti's colorful past."

"All right. I'll get on it."

***** Outlaw Narrates

"And so the Kzatti have a haven from the Cutani. They eventually resettled on another world away from the Cutani. But they knew they were a dying species and set forth to right the wrongs they did in their conquests. We continued on as a freelance team, far into the future. What that future was we didn't know."
