The Sons of Ether have historic ties to both the Council of Nine and the Technocracy. heir ideological roots can be traced to the ancient Greek philosopher Aretus, author of what is now called the Kitab al Alacir. This treatise contains two parts: the first posits a single Essence which all things are made of, ultimately called Ether. The second part contains an ontological discussion of reality and discusses how this single Essence was differentiad throughout creation. According to the Kitab al Alacir, enlightened scholars, "Philosophers", could effect the world through the workings of all.

As members of the Council, the Sons of Ether still consider themselves Scientists and believe that they work for the betterment of humanity. Although no longer members of the Technocracy, they still find their theories and accomplishments chocked by bland "scientific laws." Althought man Sons treasure old-fashioned honor and aesthetics, they're an optimistic bunch. While many Traditions bemoan their past glories, the Sons speak of a grand and glorious future. Now these Scientists boldly seek this future , whether sailing the winds of Etherspace, exploring the lost and hidden Hollow Earth or fighting the Technocracy with ray guns and jet-packs.

The Sons of Ether Tradition sphere is Matter, and some of the common foci are: inventions, electricity, Ether goggles, strange chemicals, wind/water/solar power, meters, experiments, weapons, and vehicles.
