SFC Update (Issue #1)
Sunday, March 08, 1998
6:03:07 PM
I'd like to welcome all past visitors to Sunflower Creations web site to our Update Newsletter, and also invite people who have corresponded with me in the past, to visit my website, Sunflower Creations at FreeYellow.
My site is one of those places that has a little of something to interest almost anyone. We try to be entertaining as well as informative, and we are trying to go with that spirit in these updates.
If this email update has reached you by mistake or if you prefer not to receive these updates for any reason, please email me with REMOVE SFC UPDATE in the body of the email.

These updates will be sent bi-weekly (twice a month) on or near the 1st and 15th of each month. Sunflower Creations has grown from 5 pages to well over 12 pages, and each page has a theme of its own with information and links to some really cool sites. In building Sunflower Creations, I have learned a lot and found a lot, information for crafters, webmasters (& mistresses), business opportunities and much more. I'd like my updates to be a combination of sharing that information with you & others, as well as bring my personality and love of people, to my website and this update, and develop an interaction with all people who are open to being part of our global online community.

Just as I consider my website community property, I also consider this endeavor a community project. First order of business, is a name for these updates. I have renamed my site Sunflower Creations Creative Concerns (it was just Sunflower Creations, in case you forgot). So, if anyone has suggestions for a name -- I am open to suggestions. We'll stay with SFC Update till June or so, so that everyone can get a feel for what is offered in this update and help us choose a name. Also, I invite each of you to contribute articles and links you enjoy to "OUR" update. Feedback, comments and suggestions can be made by emailing me.

Feel free to pass this update along to anyone you think would enjoy being a part of our circle, or copy in part or whole anything you can use or pass on. This issue contains a survey for working/stay at home moms.

I will try to keep this newsletter short and concise, and some weeks we may not have room to cover each topic that I have mentioned in the outline. A list of articles or contents will appear towards the beginning of each update.

Due to this being an introduction to the SFC Update, I am running a bit longer than I'd like. So, to get us started I will list my pages pertaining to Web resources, and ask each of you to submit any info you'd like to share with the"Update".

As you can see Sunflower Creations has many resources, FREE, for the most part. And I like sharing the information I have with others. SFC also has a commercial aspect. I sell beaded jewelry that I handcraft and have found some associate and partner programs for selling books and CD's, which can be duplicated on almost any other web site.
I also am dedicated to getting people a web presence and have gotten into basic web design and promotion, at reasonable prices, and work in partnership with several other web design companies whose talents at web site design are greater than mine.

My personal opinion is that the internet is the wave of the future for advertising as well as sharing ideas and promoting world peace and friendliness.
There is a quote floating on the internet that says businesses not on the internet (not having a web presence) soon, may not be in business in the next millennium. (I am paraphrasing) Growth in numbers of internet users is occurring exponentially, becoming an equal form of entertainment as TV and radio.
Web sites are used to share information, ideas & ideals, make public service and political statements and announcements, find jobs, careers or establish home-based businesses and much more besides advertising.
Email and chat programs on the "net" save many people money in long distance phone calls, and postage. It is instant (almost) and a great way to keep intouch with friends and family. Please feel free to share with me (us) your internet stories and such!

There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want; and, after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second.

HUMOR & HUMAN INTEREST
COMPUTER RELATED HUMOR
Windows 95
Bill Gates dies and finds himself being sized up by God...
"Well, Bill, I'm really confused on this call. I'm not sure whether to send you to Heaven or Hell. After all, you enormously helped society by putting a computer in almost every home in America, yet you also created the ghastly Windows '95. I'm going to do something I've never done before. I'm going to let you decide where you want to go."
Bill replied, "Well, what's the difference between the two?"
God said, "I'm willing to let you visit both places briefly, to see if it will help your decision."
"Fine, but where should I go first?" Bill asked.
"I'll leave that up to you." God replied.
"Okay then," said Bill, "let's try Hell first." So Bill went to Hell. It was a beautiful, clean, sandy beach with clear waters and lots of beautiful women running around, playing in the water, laughing and frolicking about. The sun was shining; the temperature perfect. He was very pleased.
"This is great," he told God. "If this is hell, I really want to see heaven."
"Fine," said God, and off they went. Heaven was a place high in the clouds, with angels drifting about, playing harps and singing. It was nice, but not as enticing as Hell.
Bill thought for a quick minute, and rendered his decision. "Hmmm, think I'd prefer Hell," he told God.
"Fine," replied God, "as you desire."
So Bill Gates went to Hell.
Two weeks later, God decided to check on the late billionaire to see how he was doing in Hell. When he got there, he found Bill shackled to a wall screaming amongst hot flames in dark caves, being burned, and tortured by demons, with no one to help him out of his dilemma no matter how loud he screamed.
"How's everything going?" He asked Bill.
Bill responded with his voice filled with anguish and tormented disappointment. "This is awful. This is nothing like the Hell I visited two weeks ago. I can't believe this is happening. What happened to that other place, with the beaches and the beautiful women playing in the water????"
"Oh," God said, "that was Hell 3.1 -- this is Hell 95.l!!!"

KIDS SAY THE DAMNEDEST THINGS!!!
The Best Part of Waking Up!
A grandmother was surprised by her 7 year old grandson one morning. He had made her coffee.
She drank what was the worst cup of coffee in her life. When she got to the bottom, there were three of those little green army men in the cup.
She said, "Honey, what are the army men doing in my coffee?"
Her grandson said, "Grandma, it says on TV-'The best part of waking up is soldiers in your cup!'"

TOUCHING -- WITH A MORAL
Get out your tissues!!
Jean Thompson stood in front of her fifth grade class on the very first day of school in the fall and told the children a lie.
Like most teachers, she looked at her pupils and said that she loved them all the same, that she would treat them all alike. And that was impossible because there in front of her, slumped in his seat on the third row, was a little black boy named Teddy Stoddard.
Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed he didn't play well with the other children, that his clothes were unkempt and that he constantly needed a bath. And Teddy was unpleasant. It got to the point during the first few months that she would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then marking the Fat F the top of the paper biggest of all. Because Teddy was a sullen little boy, no one else seemed to enjoy him, either.
At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's records and put Teddy's off until last. When she opened his file, she was in for a surprise.
His first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright, inquisitive child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners...he is a joy to be around."
His second grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is an excellent student well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle."
His third grade teacher wrote, "Teddy continues to work hard but his mother's death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best but his father doesn't show much interest and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't taken."
Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class. He is tardy and could become a problem."
By now Mrs. Thompson realized the problem but Christmas was coming fast. It was all she could do, with the school play and all, until the day before the holidays began and she was suddenly forced to focus on Teddy Stoddard.
Her children brought her presents, all in beautiful ribbon and bright paper, except for Teddy's, which was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper of a scissored grocery bag.
Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one quarter full of cologne.
She stifled the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume behind the other wrist.
Teddy Stoddard stayed behind just long enough to say, "Mrs.Thompson, today you smelled just like my mom used to."
After the children left she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she quit teaching reading, and writing, and speaking. Instead, she began to teach children.
Jean Thompson paid particular attention to one they all called "Teddy." As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded.
On days there would be an important test, Mrs. Thompson would remember that cologne. By the end of the year he had become one of the smartest children in the class and... well, he had also become the "pet" of the teacher who had once vowed to love all of her children exactly the same.
A year later she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her that of all the teachers he'd had in elementary school, she was his favorite. Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still his favorite teacher of all time.
Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would graduate from college with the highest of honors. He assured Mrs. Thompson she was still his favorite teacher.
Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still his favorite teacher but that now his name was a little longer. The letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, M.D.
The story doesn't end there. You see, there was yet another letter that Spring. Teddy said he'd met this girl and was to be married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering... well, if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit in the pew usually reserved for the mother of the groom.
And guess what, she wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. And I bet on that special day, Jean Thompson smelled just like... well, just like the way Teddy remembered his mother smelling on their last Christmas together.

THE MORAL: You never can tell what type of impact you may make on another's life by your actions or lack of action. Consider this factin your venture through life.
PERSONAL NOTE: Thanks to my "Mrs. Thompson"! And do any of us know a "Teddy"? You never know when your random act of kindness will cause a turn around, and it's never too late to change your mind! Parents and teachers, the children are our gift to society at large.
