Book 1

Grade: 1/2

Appleseed Book 1 is the best Appleseed book I have read so far. It is smart, has characters you care about, incredible artwork and a solid view of what is going on. Like all of Masamune Shirows work, the artwork is strong. Very strong. But I don't need to tell you that, just look at the pictures. But the story also has its place. Really I do not want to describe it for that is half the fun, learning what comes next. Get it, its a no brainer purchase.

Book 2

Grade:

Book two basiclly finishes the story set forth in part one. While the overall story is excellent, there is to much focus on the council and not enough on the characters. The story is slowed down with a bit to much dialog at the start but the second half will blow you away.

Part 3

Grade:

Part 3 is interesting and not quite like any of the other Appleseed books. There is much more character interaction and it proves Shirow is quite virsitile and able to write more than cyberpunk stories.

Part 4

Grade:

A more basic story than the first two. There is a lot of action but the human story and strong moral questions are missing. The art is very sharp but some of the inking makes the pictures too dark. A lot of the story is told through actions and thats fine with me. A real page turner but it is over far to quickly with the only insentive to reread it is to look at the art.
