At the end of autumn and principles of winter the last salmons of the Iberian rivers complete their course towards the spawning grounds. The females by vigorous movements of their caudal fins carefully excavates in the gravel the nest where they will lay the eggs.  Throughout the process they are courted by several males in a ferocious and spectacular competition to gain the right to be the ones to fertilize them.

The culmination of this fascinating nuptial courtship arrives at its aim when the reproductive pair with their belly
patch to the gravel, their vibrant bodies, and their open jaws expel eggs and sperm
to be perpetuated in the coming generation.
