A Trip to the Hills

Fraser's Hill Retreat 2003

In September 2003, I joined seven other friends from church to ascend the hills of Malaysia. Our trip to Fraser's Hill was a welcome respite from the busyness of everyday life.. It was truly a precious time for us to breathe in the fresh mountain air and bask in the glorious sunshine. No tourists. No shopping. Just a special time with God.

Introducing the eight of us (from back to front, left to right): Alvin, Wei Li, Luke, Jason, Kelvin, Royston, Hanxin, Mark (me).

The hills are alive..

Glorious Sunset...

Our humble abode

Settling in..

Streams of living water...

Watching time go trickling by....

A picture of faith - During an early morning walk, God impressed upon my heart that faith is like a road into the unknown shrouded in mist. We just have to walk the path and He will lead us all the way...

Staking the Ground

"That day, each of us came to God with a stake in our hands and presented it before Him. To us, a stake symbolised a personal claim to the promises that we made during the trip. It was also representative of staking the ground – claiming the land as an altar to the Lord. Just as the great men of the Old Testament built altars to the Lord, the eight of us built our own altars to the Lord."

- excerpt from Fraser's Hill Journal (14 September 03)

Broken before God..

A stake in our hands - worthless to all...

A stake in His hands - brought life to us all...

Surrendered before the cross...
