Doug and Ricky Lee Phelps

Kentucky Headhunters--Brother Phelps

Natives of Leachville in the northeast part of the
state, the Phelps brother eventually gravitated
out of the state toward the southern part of Kentucky,
not far from Nashville.

There they fell in with Greg Martin and another set of
brothers, Richard and Fred Young. The five eventually
found success as The Kentucky Headhunters. The first
Headhunters release, "Pickin' On Nashville" sold over
two million copies and won the group Album of the Year
and Group of the Year awards at the CMA, ACM and
Grammy award presentations. Two videos from the album,
"Oh, Lonesome Me" and "Dumas Walker" were shot in the
Missouri town of Cardwell, located in the Bootheel just
across the St. Francis River from Paragould, Arkansas.

After the release of their second album, "Electric
Barnyard", Ricky Lee and Doug left the Headhunters
to work on a solo project. The result is two fine,
if not commercially successful albums called "Let
Go" and "Any Way the Wind Blows".

Doug has since rejoined the Headhunters taking
over Ricky Lee's duties on lead vocals. Ricky
Lee, "tired of the craziness", is working on
other projects.
