Mind's Eye Theatrical Association Constitution

Article I - Name
This organization shall be known as The Mind's Eye Theatrical Association, and its acronym shall be META.

Article II - Purpose
No facet of society is rehearsed, all knowing, and/or in complete stability. It is for this reason META has incorporated the spontaneity of improvisation and the everyday issues of life, with a slight twist of fantasy. META's purpose is to help students be efficient and confident communicators, as well as to provide a means of stress release for its members.

Article III - Membership
META membership is open to any Sam Houston State University student who wishes to participate in a friendly group improvisation atmosphere and is willing to cooperate with other members within this atmosphere.

Article IV - Meetings
A meeting and game will be arranged at least semi-weekly in the Old Main Pit. Should circumstances, such as inclement weather, arise, members will be notified of altered locations, meeting dates and times, etc. as decided by an officer meeting. The storyteller(s), narrator(s), and, if necessary, other officers should hold an organizational meeting prior to each group meeting.

Article V - Officers
President - Governs META, organizes and conducts meetings, organizes and oversees META activities, oversees other META offices, mediates in organization and/or member disputes, and is the primary contact with the META advisor.

Vice-President - Fulfills all obligations of the president in his/her absence/resignation and assists with the president's duties when necessary. Also controls the duties of treasurer for META (collects META dues, keeps accurate records of dues paid, keeps accurate records of META funds deposited and spent, and oversees the META bank account in conjunction with the president.)

Secretary - Contact person for META, documents meetings, helps notify members of any change in meetings, is responsible for submitting and updating the proper paper work as per university organization guidelines, and is responsible for keeping proper documentation for META (member names and phone numbers, changes in the constitution, etc.) Also responsible for publicity for META, following all regulations set by the Department of Student Activities for said publicity. Also responsible for creating and updating the META web site. (If the need arises, an assistant secretary may be elected or appointed.)

Storyteller - Heads campaign planning, runs the campaigns, resolves "in-game" disputes, and counsels new members on the proper procedures and activities, and is responsible for notifying members of any change in meeting place and/or time when such a change is deemed necessary by the officers. (Generally, one storyteller per campaign, possibly two or more depending on size of campaign.)

Narrator - Assists the storyteller in his/her duties, fulfills storyteller's duties in his/her absence/resignation, helps counsel new members on the proper procedures and activities for META. (Generally, one or two per campaign, possibly more depending of size of campaign.)

Article VI - Elections
--Officer elections shall be held each year during the last meeting of META, which will be called by the current officers. Offices always voted on include president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Storyteller positions are on a voluntary basis and general member consensus. Narrator positions are generally appointed by the head storyteller for each campaign.
--Voting will be either secret ballot or a show of hands, depending on circumstances and general member consensus. Voting will be conducted and tallied by a member who is not running for any position. Officers will be elected by a simple majority vote. After new officers have been chosen, retired officers shall relinquish duties, paper work, etc. to the new officers.
--If a vote in favor of impeaching an officer is achieved by no less than a 2/3 majority of all active members, then a new election will be held immediately to replace the position.
--Any other voting situations (changing procedures, suspending/expelling members, amending the constitution, etc.) will require a 2/3 majority vote before any action is taken.

Article VII - Reports to the Office of Student Life
At the beginning of each fall and spring semester, the META secretary shall submit and update report with the names and addresses of its officers and advisor(s). This report shall be submitted to Room 316 of the Lowman Student Center no later than the twelfth day of classes. Changes in officers that occur during a semester must be reported promptly.

Article VIII - Amendments
This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 majority vote of all active members. A copy of constitutional changes must be submitted by the secretary to the Director of Student Activities as soon as possible.
