Training News:
Wednesday, 1-8: Tuesday was warm but today it hit 54F! Once again, I took the bike out for a 1 hour 5 minute spin on the Summit - River Boulevard route. There were a lot of other bikes out too. On the way home from work, I checked out Island Lake and Meet the New Swamp. Melt Down! Both were toast so they'll need more snow. Tuesday, 1-7: With the 51F temps, I biked the Summit - River Boulevard loop with Tom Bengel for 1 hour, 20 minutes. Sunday, 1-5: Big Race Sunday! The Blue Hills Race took place on a local flowage due to a lack of snow on the original course. Tons of people were there, I drove up with Tom and Lee Bengel. John O'Connell and Bills Stuber, Quinn and Kosfeld were there along with Mike Moulsoff, Bob Alleva, Steve Edling, Greg Mikunda, Bob Peterson, Tom Krenz, Jay Wenner, Odd Osland, Rick Wheeler Frank and Mike Lundeen, Bob Woodruff, John Stamm, Dan Meyer, Tom Meyer, Brent Oja and tons of others. The results were screwed up by a volunteer (at least he volunteered!) so no one knows for sure where they finished. I finished right behind Bob Alleva and Greg Mikunda. With the warm-up, race abd cool-down, I skied for 2 2/3 hours. Saturday, 1-4: Big Snow Saturday! Once again, back to the Troll. I've basically been skiing Trollhaugen on the weekends and the local swamps during the week since the end of November. Today, I drove up with Tom and Lee Bengel. I classic skied with Tom for 1 hour 45 minutes. Others skiing included Bill Kosfeld, Mary Beth O'Connell, Larry Larson, Bruce Fiedler, Roy Carlsted, Neil Soltis, Kevin Rogers and some others. The Troll didn't get any rain but instead got some light snow. Thursday, 1-2: John O'Connell joined me for 1 1/2 hours of skate skiing at: "Meet the New Swamp, same as the Old Swamp." The conditions were very good thanks to the snowcover.
