I have made this page for all the dolphin lovers like myself. On this page you will find information that you may already now or you may learn something new. You will find a collection on pictures that I have collected overtime. I am always adding so you may want to check back every once in awhile.

To my knowledge all of these pictures and backgrounds are free for anyone to use. If they belong to anyone please let me know. I will take them off or give you the credit for them. There are about 32 different species of dolphins.
-the bottlenose of course being the most commonly known
-Indus river dolphin, is endangered
-Baizi/Yangtze river dolphin, is also endangered
-Pink dolphin, most common
-Eastern Spinner
-Dusky dolphin, Lagenorhyus Obscurus
-Pacific white sided dolphin
-the real dolphin, Delphinus Delphis live in the warmer parts of the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Black sea
-Blubberwhale, Orcinus Orca live in both warm and cold water
-the Grindwhale, Globicephala Melaena lives in North-Atlantic and Pacific
-the tumbler, Tursiops Truncatus lives in warmer parts of North-Atlantic
They are located just about everywhere in the ocean
Dolphins are mammals.
They breathe through a blowhole that is located on top of there head.
They surface every 2 minutes or so to exhale then take a large breathe before submerging again. They can stay under up to 15 minutes.
They never sleep, just nap for about 5 minutes they can suffacate.
They can live between 40-50 years old.
They can weigh up to 450 pounds.
They have an average of 200 to 250 sharp teeth.
Average length of a dolphin is 12 to 13 feet.
They can swim as fast as 19 miles per hour with bursts up to 25 miles an hour.
They can dive down more then 100 feet.
On average a dolphin eats mostly fish and squid that is almost equal to 4 to 6% of there weight in one day.
They send out clicking or whistling sounds almost constately.
They travel in pods. A pod usually consist of about 15 dolphins.
2700 bottledolphins have been taken into captivity worldwide.
Between the years 1959-1972 an estimated 4.8 million dolphins were killed in tuna nets.
Adults of the most common studied species the bottlenose, come to sexual maturiety after 5-12 years in the female and 9-13 years in the males.
They mate in the spring.
After a gestation period of 11-12 monthes a single calf is born, tail first.
The calves swim and breathe within minutes of birth.
At birth they are about 3 feet long and 25 pounds.
They nurse for up to 18 monthes.
In the first two weeks calves double in size from drinking the mothers milk.
They will stay with their mother for about 5 years after there birth.
A dolphin may give birth up to 8 times in a lifetime.
