This is a photo of the Pleiades and Hyades open star clusters rising behind some trees. It was taken in late summer/early fall from Arunah Hill in Cummington, Ma. The appearance of these clusters is one of the first signs of the approaching winter. At the time of year this was taken, you have to stay up REAL late. Living in New England, I only got 2 good chances to do this last year. Hopefully I'll get some better weather during the dark periods that coincide with my days off.

The red horizontal line and blue horizontal band are from dust in the scanner. When I get better at this and put up a real web site, I'll take those out.
