M65 and M66

This is a short (5 minute or so) exposure through my 12.5" newtonian with the original 5" drive that had about 2 or 3 MINUTES periodic error. It was guided with the ST-4 which did a remarkable job considering the extremely poor quality of the drive. I have since replaced the drive with an 11 5/16" Byers drive. The difference is astounding.

This shot was overdeveloped by accident, so it is pretty grainy, but when I scanned it and cropped it, I was surprised at the detail for such a short exposure.
