CELINE DION

BIOGRAPHY
The youngest of a 14 children family, Celine was born on March 30th, 1968, in the little town of Charlemagne, on the North shore of the Saint-Lawrence river, on the East end of the Montreal island.

Her first name comes from a song (Celine, sang by Hugues Aufray and written in 1966 by Vline Buggy) that her mother was singing while she was pregnant.

She grew up surrounded by music. In Le vieux Baril (The Old barrel), a piano-bar restaurant in her home town owned by her parents, the children were doing waitressing and singing for the clients. The family held regular jam sessions, with Adhemar (her father) playing accordion and Therese (her mother) playing violin. The family was spending their free time singing and playing different musical instruments, as everyone in this family is musician. Celine plays the piano.

She first stood on a table to sing a Ginette Reno song at the age of 5! At five hand a half years (On August 18th, 1973), she sang the song "Du fil, des aiguilles et du coton" (some thread, some needles and some cotton) at her brother's (Michel) marriage. Soon, many town's people were planning their evenings by going to hear "La p'tite quebecoise" (the little quebecer).

At the age of 12, Celine announced to her mother that she couldn't imagine doing any other career but the one of a singer. Therese, acknowledging her daughter's talent, wrote a song for her, Ce n'etait qu'un rêve (It was only a dream). It was recorded on a demo tape and sent to Rene Angelil, a well known manager in Montreal. After he heard the tape, he asked to hear her live at his office.

He was impressed and touched by the strength and the control of her young voice. He cried listening to her voice, and he agreed to work with her. He had to mortgage his house in order to pay for the production of her first two albums! Today, Rene still continues to manage Celine's career; consequently, he has led her to the top of the charts all over the world.

"I missed my family and my home, but I
don't regret having lost my adolescence. I
had one dream: I wanted to be a singer"
- Celine to the American magazine People

In December '90, she and other associates, have launched the Nickel's restaurants.

On May 2nd, '93, her niece Karine (daughter of her sister Liette) died at age 16 from cystic fibrosis. Celine is the spokesperson of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for many years, she does so in memory of Karine now.

In December 1994, she married Rene Angelil her manager who is 26 years her senior. It was, of course, the biggest event of the year among the jetset in Canada.

MY FAVORITE CELINE SONG: FALLING INTO YOU
From The CD With The Same Name

And in your eyes I see ribbons of color
I see us inside of each other
I feel my unconscious merge with yours
And I hear a voice say, "What's his is hers"

I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you

I was afraid to let you in here
Now I have learned love can't be made in fear
The walls begin to tumble down
And I can't even see the ground

I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you

Falling like a leaf, falling like a star
Finding a belief, falling where you are

Catch me, don't let me drop!
Love me, don't ever stop!

So close your eyes and let me kiss you
And while you sleep I will miss you

I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you

Falling like a leaf, falling like a star
Finding a belief, falling where you are

Falling into you
Falling into you
Falling into you
