The Best of the BarKays Volumes 1+2

By Maximillian Muhammad

Imagine a group that takes parts of hits and influences and turns them original again that's better than being called a first-rate Bar Band and that's the BarKays. cuts like "Shake Your Rump To The Funk", "Move Your Boogie Body", "Hit and Run", "Freak show On The Dance floor", "Struck By You", "Let's Have Some Fun", "Boogie Body Land", "Do It (Let Me See You Shake), "Are You Being Real", "Freaky Behavior", "She Talks To Me With Her Body", "Your Place Or Mine", "Dirty Dancer", "White House orgy".

Even though one can hear the influence at the time of some of those cuts The BarKays Seal is their as well. thanks in part to Co-Production with the late Allen Jones. also the Soulful delivery of Larry Dodson. the Rhythm section of original founder James Alexander who was on Bass, Winston Stewart on Keys, Harvey Henderson and Charles Allen, Frank Thompson round out the Horn Section. Lloyd Smith, on Guitar and Sherman Guy, and Michael Beard on Drums and Percussion. also of note Larry Dodson played Harmonica to go along with Co-writing and Producing.and while being influenced by Sly Stone ,Parliament, and Earth,Wind and Fire like most 70's acts they also had an influence on Cameo and the Ohio Players hopefully folks will fess up. cuz to quote one of their big hits not featured which by the way featured an up and coming Bay act Con Funk Shun(played on the cut) their Funk was the "Holly Ghost", down South anyway.they were and hopefully will stay Funky on a first rate basis. cuz this is far superior to a sample any day.
