(It is widely believed that through the use of desalizination of sea water much of the Negev can be made fertile; but, of course, the desalinization technology must be further developed to make water recovered from the sea fit for human consumption as well as for agricultural and industrial purposes. Spending less on the military and more on developing desalinization technology would be a very desirable project for the government of Israel to undertake, but that won't happen until there is peace in the region.)
