i have been to a few concerts in my life, but, i think its safe to say that this was the best i have ever been privledged to witness. the sisters came, they destroyed, and left quietly, with a wave and a smile, contrasting the long drawn out entrance. i dont say this only because i am a fan, but in terms of music and showmanship, it was an extremely intense show
the opening act was tube, i didnt much care for it, give me aphex twin any day, but he wasn't bad. by the time he got off stage it was a bit after 10:00pm (i had gotten there at 7:30pm), it was time: enter the sisters.
andrew eldritch, not opting for any black at all, save his leather pants, appeared in a white turtleneck and a red shirt over it. at first, i swore it was david bowie, until he opened his mouth. there was so much smoke that at times you literally could not see them onstage, but they made their presence known nonetheless.
i couldnt tell you the set list, i cant remember it now, but i can tell you the songs i do remember them playing; temple of love, logic, this corrosion, vision thing, first and last and always, detonation boulevard, dominion/mother russia... to name but a few. for the first of many encores, eldritch returned with "you asked for it" and ripped into what appeared to be "sweet home alabama", but i could be wrong. he was also a bit responsive with the crowd. for example, one screamed "where's the new album?" and got a "thats a very good question" as a reply. another idiot yelled "get up and dance!" to which eldritch simply replied "shut the fuck up..".
the show lasted near two hours to well after midnight, well worth the wait. eldritch threw himself around on stage, screamingin to the microphone, making wonderfully odd hand gestures, cigarette in hand, sunglasses on his face (does anyone actually know his eye color??). he crooned and growled with passion, something that i, to be completely honest did not expect. but it was a powerful show. if they ever come along to a city near you (as rare an event as it is), go see them. you wont be dissapointed. i wasn't...
