Djinn

This is an interview between me and Djinn on 4/3/00. Djinn is a small chihuahua jacker. He has played as a regular solo character and a crew as well. Some of his aliases include Stonefist, Kahlil, Tonic, Haji and Scurvy. He has been playing for many years and was once the leader of Arena. Djinn is currently conducting research into new slacking methods. Wait, no that's me, nevermind.

L98: Tell me how you got into mudding.

D: 2nd part of freshman year at UNC
D: in comp lab, checking email, I see Benji playing this game

Bluffy hollers, 'Odie is the Master!

D: he was a hunter, named Jyhad I think
D: Zod was his roommate
D: They showed me.

L98: How long have you been playing here?

D: almost 6 years

L98: Have you always played solo?

D: I started solo, then figured out how to multi, then I got tintin
D: In aug 98, I went solo to become a Jacker.

L98: You've played as a jacker, a crew and just a regular solo guy.
L98: Which have you liked the most?

D: I like being a Jacker, but I had my most fun as a crew.
D: combination of the power, the skills..
D: to make the sum greater than the parts.

L98: You've been a jacker for some time now. Why did you become a jacker?

D: I had done pretty well as a crew.
D: Gone most everywhere, done most everything.
D: Jacker was the final frontier.

L98: You have nearly every special jacker item.
L98: What is the secret to your success?

D: A good plan to get the item, and mental preparedness to keep them
D: If I can dictate where and when we fight, I hold the advantage
D: If I surprise you, even more so.
D: When another Jacker is on, I am *always* aware of the best course of action if attacked
D: In rare instances, I have been attacked, not run away, and killed my attacker
D: If done right, mutants can rock your world.
D: Even had one Jacker burst me with a pulse rifle. I have a good dodgeroll, which helped then :)

L98: As I understand, you were the original leader of Arena.
L98: Tell me about the early days.

D: I didn't start the clan.
D: Roc, Shamoo and Uriah were the charter members
D: I believe Feeb going before I did (you know him as Lyons now)
D: After a time, I improved myself, and Uriah thought it best if I would take the mantle of leader
D: At that point, there were a couple other clans of greater strength than ours
D: Hemf, Teklords..
D: I didn't know how to be a leader and run a clan, but
D: I figured that I minght as well make it into a strong and respected entity
D: I recruited, kept an eye out for up and comers
D: I feel I led the clan from the front, organizing groups and kicking ass.
D: I was confident in my own abilities, and my ability to get the most out of those with me
D: I'd bet it also helped a lot that I played way too damn much for somebody trying to get a colle
D: ge degree
D: levels, money, gear... but most importantly, knowledge

L98: What is your favorite zone and why?

D: The ThunderDome
D: I look upon it with equal parts respect and fear.
D: Back with my crew, it was pretty tough.. we didn't rock back then
D: Only crew I saw do it without help was Deity/Dope/Mocha
D: mad skills..
D: I like it becuase that's the name of the game, and anything can happen inside
D: Feldor leads in and goes linkless... everything walks in at once
D: Lionheart kills Celtic before anybody can rescue..
D: or the zone repops before you leave.

L98: What do you think was the best time to play TDome?

D: Probably tdome 3... it was all fucked up, but had some
D: great ideas. odd thing was that nobody knew precisely wtf was going on

L98: What was the worst time to play TDome?

D: When Steele was pissed, either in general, or at me specifically

L98: If you could change anything about TDome, what would it be?

D: Give the imms that log on the most, the most (or at least more) power
D: I feel that immly involvement is important

L98: What do you like the most about TDome?

D: The people and the excitement
D: I really don't have a great answer for that..

L98: You're a talking chihuahua.
L98: Did you ever get teased in school because you are different?

D: nah, the others knew I was a mutant

D: and even though I looked funny, I could mess em up with my brain or my swordarm
D: Shame that I had to make an example out of that one bully..

L98: You recently started working on a web page. How is that going?

D: I've had a lot of irons in the fire, and haven't had time to work on it much
D: I still don't know html well enough to put together a rudimentary webpage
D: I play fantasy sports a bunch, and baseball just started up, too :)

L98: You partially answered this, but, what are some of the things you do IRL?

D: I coach kids at the YMCA in soccer.
D: I play fantasy games, mostly on games.espn.go.com and cnnsi.com
D: I play all sorts of sports: soccer, golf, basketball, softball, flag football
D: I drink beer.

L98: This will be the last question.
L98: Where do you see yourself in the future?

D: I don't really know where I'll be.
D: I hope to be happy, relatively unstressed, well-paid..
D: I think life is to be enjoyed, so I'm going to do the things I enjoy when I can
D: tdome, beer, and coaching soccer are all pretty good examples

L98: Thank you.

D: Thanks, Odie.
