Redwolf: how did you find tdome?' Odie: This was back in 1994 when Jestyr7 and I were sysreps/mud gods on the VisionSoft BBS.' Odie: We had just gotten internet access in our area.' Odie: I heard there were other muds out there and started asking for addresses.' Odie: Some guy I don't remember from the MGS BBS gave me two addresses,' Odie: Avalon (crap) and TDome.' Ciane: I tried avalon, crap is being generous.' Redwolf: so I'll assume you logged in, tried it, and obviously, liked it' Redwolf: what was it about tdome that caught and held your attention?' Odie: What caught my attention was that it was all new to me, and it was a Circle base.' Odie: Avalon doesn't support color, or I couldn't figure out how.' Odie: And I came from VisionMUD, which is purely a stock circle mud (NO modifications).' Odie: And since circlemud is a skeleton mud designed to be edited, it's quite boring.' Odie: So...I probably could have gotten hooked on any decent circle mud, to be honest...' Odie: Probably not the answer you want :)' Redwolf: no, and I'm gonna follow it with,' Redwolf: if it was simply color, you could have wandered away. What I mean is,' Redwolf: have you tried other muds, and if so, why have you returned here?' Odie: Yes, I have tried several different muds, including Sojourn and Eye of the Storm.' Odie: Both of which I have played to be what I consider extensively (Half a year or more).' Odie: What keeps me here (since I have never left) is a combination of many things:' Odie: 1. My friends are here. Even if there was a better mud based on code/zones, my friends are her' Odie: here.' Odie: 2. The code/zones here are interesting.' Odie: It's a challenge but not impossible.' Odie: I can get my ass whooped but still feel badass.' Odie: 3. Even if I didn't have fun playing here anymore, I make money off the game :)' Redwolf: that begs elaboration, but I think I'll leave it alone.' Redwolf: this one is alias's' Ciane: So, in your opinion, what has been the best time to play tdome?' Odie: That's easy' Odie: Back in the original TDome II, when Strider was a regular player.' Odie: We'd group every day for like a year, and it wasn't a big issue' Odie: I didn't have to go begging people to group...I'd just tell him "Where meet?"' Odie: I'd run HunterX with his shotguns/bursting weapons, and since they did good damage' Odie: I felt tough' Odie: We had a lot of fun...' Redwolf: haha. I remember that name.' Odie: nod...he was my third multi ever (here)' Ciane: What's been the worst time to play tdome in your opinion?' Odie: The worst time was in TDome 3 (I think) when the town was violent and there was reputation cod' Odie: code.' Odie: At that time, pkillers/looters ruled the game' Odie: Honest players cowered in fear, knowing their day would come' Redwolf: I pleed the fifth.' Odie: That was one of the few times I got looted here' Ciane: If you could change or add something to tdome what would it be?' Odie: What immediately comes to mind is...shops would have infinite cash.' Redwolf: feel free to elaborate by the way, lord knows I rambled some. trying to' Redwolf: provide people some insight in to the man that is odie.' Redwolf: I'll make this fairly open ended, and let you tell us a little bit,' Redwolf: you do, and have for some time, worked for another mud, Fallout,' Redwolf: how did this come about, what do you do, where do you want it to go,' Odie: It's a very long story...' Redwolf: only what you want to share.' Odie: Well, it all started about four years ago back on what I call, "Strider's MUD".' Ciane: Alpha' Odie: This was a mud that never got off the ground but was run and operated by Strider, ' Odie: Everlast, Me, Alias, Redwolf, Jester, Jestyr and maybe a few others.' Odie: I'm not really going to go into it, but I made four zones while I was there.' Odie: It sort of fell apart after a few months but I kept the zones.' Odie: Then a year later, around January 1997, Xynix, a good friend of mine, approached me.' Odie: He said he wanted to start up a mud and wanted help.' Odie: I told him I wasn't interested since it probably would die after a few months anyways.' Odie: He assured me he was serious and it would last. The account was already paid for' Odie: for half a year in advance or so, so I agreed, and Locker, who was also asked, agreed.' Odie: We were open to the public immediately, started with 0 players...' Odie: Well, we started with nothing really, Xynix and I started building the first city' Odie: on the first day. Then we added my 4 zones.' Odie: In the first year or so I made about 15 zones or so and we got a decent who list' Odie: Grey/Storm agreed to do coding for us. They did some coding and left several months later.' Odie: Locker left, then came back after a couple years.' Odie: More zones were made, mostly by me, we make Alias a god.' Odie: By now we're really quite popular, this is after maybe 2 years.' Odie: Our who list at an average of maybe 40 with a peak around 60.' Odie: Players are making zones.' Odie: I left fallout a month or so ago, after being a god for 3 years.' Odie: I had made 40 zones, 30 zones were not made by me, mostly by players, which' Odie: shows their enthusiasm.' Odie: About 90-95% of the original code was written by me (this doesn't include patches' Odie: or simple changes to text messages)' Odie: Anyways, it was a lot of fun and I don't regret putting so much effort into the game.' Odie: We had some good times.' Odie: oh' Redwolf: I won't ask about the split, none of my, or our business.' Odie: And don't call it "TDome Light" or any other insulting names. It hurts me after' Odie: all the effort I put into it.' Redwolf: calling it tdome light. theyw ere very upset about it at the time' Redwolf: though I never did get told why.' Odie: The amount of players "stollen" by both muds is about even at this point.' Redwolf: so now that you have moved on,' Redwolf: do you have other plans or you sticking to tdome for a while? Redwolf: see odie doing in the coming year?' Odie: I plan on playing TDome until it goes down for good, but as far as more advanced interests,' Odie: I've been learning the basics of Macintosh programming.' Odie: And I'd be interested in working on another mud, if it suited my tastes.' Odie: Oh, and lots of Quake 3...' Odie: Maybe aliens vs predators if a CD comes in the mail' Ciane: You talk alot about slacking, Odie. When did you first learn about the benefits of Slacking?' Odie: Everything I learned about slacking, and whining, comes from Strider.' Odie: He was sort of my mentor in that department.' Odie: He told me about slacking and he was right...it is more enjoyable than working.' Odie: I've been spreading the Word ever since.' Redwolf: you should canonize it' Ciane: What have you done recently to increase your level of slack? ' Odie: Well, I'm not exactly sure of what I've done, but my first D in college proves it's increasing' Redwolf: welcome to the club :)' Odie: I play games too much I guess.' Odie: here's a crude graph of my GPA over the last few years' Odie: *' Odie: **' Odie: ***' Odie: ****' Odie: ****' Odie: with the vertical column being gpa and horizontal time' Redwolf: I started with a 3.8' Redwolf: I'm at a 1.9' Odie: Now flip it horizontally and rename gpa to slacking' Redwolf: I understand :)' Ciane: Heh' Ciane: So what do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment on tdome so far?' Odie: hmm' Redwolf: can be anything' Odie: I would have to say, making $$2,500+ dollars by selling tdome equipment and money' Redwolf: holy shit yo' Alias whistles innocently. Alias *cough* 300 or so from me *COUGH* Redwolf: okay,' Odie: That's since august of 1998 btw' Redwolf: one more from us,' Redwolf: then we will allow you to say a few words,' Redwolf: but first,' Redwolf: If you have one goal, or secret wish, or objective,' Redwolf: left for tdome, something you still want to do,' Redwolf: what is it?' Odie: I feel like I have accomplished a lot here.' Odie: Probably my last major goal is to make a zone for TDome and have it accepted.' Odie: Having made over 40 zones already I think I'm qualified...' Odie: That would be the ultimate way to give back to the community of mudders' Redwolf: feel free to elaborate or clarify anything,' Redwolf: or just to say something to everyon on record,' Odie: That's it :) not too exciting I guess' Redwolf: then well wrap' Odie: For me it would be a great thrill though' Ciane: Okay Joram, untie the producer, I'll get the sound guy.' Redwolf: okay, but I'm keeping this pimp headset.' Redwolf: n othing to add chief?' Odie: For the best enchants, see Jolly' Ciane: :)' Joram chuckles politely. Redwolf: good way to end.'
