Dear Incredibly Talented and Inspired Writer:

It’s time once again to gear up for the annual Hexagon revue! We hope you can attend our writers’ meeting on Tuesday evening, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church at Chevy Chase Circle.

Hexagon is an all-volunteer organization that produces a musical comedy satirical revue to benefit a local charity each year. Hexagon shows consist of original songs, skits and jokes that spoof the Washington political and social scene.

This year’s show, "Hexagon 1999: 20,000 Leaks Under D.C." will run for four weeks at the Ellington School in Georgetown and will feature celebrities from Congress and the news media. Hexagon has been doing this for almost 45 years and has a large and loyal following throughout the DC area.

There would be no show at all without creative people like you to write the material. We need sketch and joke writers, lyricists, composers and arrangers. But basically we need smart-alecks: funny, clever and imaginative people who can help write sharp satire.

This is your chance to see your material performed fully costumed and orchestrated before 13,000 people eager for a good laugh! No subject is out of bounds as long as it is funny.

Even though the show doesn’t open until next March, it is never too early to get your creative juices flowing. If you have ideas, outlines, drafts or finished material, great! Please bring them.

But at least bring yourself and be prepared to brainstorm. You can bring original ideas and/or you can collaborate with others to develop original satirical material.

Don’t worry if you cannot attend this meeting: there is always the telephone, fax, e-mail or the postal service.

I hope you can attend these writers meetings or participate in some other way. Feel free to contact me with questions or brilliant ideas.
