Oh Cutter Gap,

A CHRISTY CHRISTMAS
  by Susie
(to the tune of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas)

Have yourself a Merry Christy Christmas
Stand ‘neath mistletoe
Think of how they
Celebrated long ago.

Have yourself a Merry Christy Christmas
Hear the carols sung
Share the festive spirit
Of both old and young.

We wish we were in Cutter Gap
For in Cutter Gap, there’s joy
Faith and friendship and loving hearts
Smiles from every girl and boy.

Many years have passed since 1912 but
One thing still is clear
Our love of this place
Will last year after year

So share a Christy Christmas
With those you hold dear.

Christy Wonderland (1st prize winner)
  by Chris
(to the tune of Winter Wonderland)

It's been years since her arrival,
Yes I know, I'm in denial,
But I can pretend
The show did not end
Walking in a Christy Wonderland

Gone away is the black night
Here to stay is our Fairlight
She sings a cove song
As we hum along
Walking in a Christy Wonderland

In the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he is Parson Dave
He'll say "Christy, baby, do you love me?"
But she'll be with the youngin's in a cave

Later on, I'll be wishin'
I could live at the mission
And eat possum stew
Chew after chew
Walking in a Christy Wonderland

If you don't like how you feel
You can call on Doctor Neil
The sweet mountain dove;
The doctor of love
Walking in a Christy Wonderland

There's Miss Alice walkin' and a prayin'
Bird's Eye's got himself another still
Do ya hear what Mountie is a sayin'
Just close your eyes, pretend,
And then you will
Walking in a Christy Wonderland

Yes, my friends, it's all a dream
But how real the mountains seem
We won't let them go
We love Christy so
Walking in a Christy Wonderland

Dancin' Around the Mission House
  by Chris
(to the tune of Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree)

Dancin' around the mission house;
What a happy holiday,
A yuletime mountain rhapsody
In that new old fashioned way.

Dancin' around the mission house;
Even Alice has to sing,
"Thank Thee Lord for Christmastime
And please bless everything."

Bridge:

Fairlight get's a premonition
Then you'll hear her say:
"Bird's Eye Taylor! Gotta hit the-
Deck! (Oops!) It's only Lundy Taylor!"

Dancin' around the mission house;
What a happy family,
Everyone's got a Christmas treat
Underneath the Christmas tree

Dancin' around the mission house;
Now that's the mountain way,
Look at all the mountain boys
Dancin' with our Ruby Mae!

Bridge:

David Grantland's got poor Christy
'neath the mistletoe,
"I can't stand this lonely mission
Tell! me babe, what's your decision."

Dancin' around the mission house
What a happy holiday,
A yuletime mountain rhapsody
In that new..old...fashioned
WAY!!!!!!!!

Ruby, the Red Haired Border
  by Chris
(to the tune of RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER )

You know David and Alice
and Margaret and Mountie;

Ida and Fairlight
and Bird's Eye and Christy;

But do you recall
The most famous border of all?

Chorus:

Ruby, the Red Haired Border
Had a very shiny head,
And if you ever smelled her
You might end up seeing red

All of the other children
Used to laugh and call her names
They never let poor ruby
Join in any mountain games.

Bridge:

Then one muggy afternoon
Ida came her way,
"You can scream and you can shout,
I'm gonna wash that skunk smell out!"

Then how the children loved her
And she was their Juliet
No more the stinky red head
"Ruby Mae, you are THE BEST!"

In Christy's Eyes
  by Lisa3
(to the tune of In Another's Eyes )

Neil:
In Christy's eyes
I'm bound by law
To stay with Mags
Though my heart's not hers
I'd never cheat
This is just not fair
In Christy's eyes
yeah, yeah

Christy:
In Dr. MacNeill's eyes
I came here to teach
He thinks of me
As a foolish girl
He doesn't see
That my heart is his
In Dr. MacNeill's eyes
Mmm,mmm

Both: In another's eyes
I'm afraid that they might see
The feelings more friendship
That I've tried to fight
I hope none realize
And I pray they never do
That everytime you're near I'm so blue
In another's eyes

Neil:
In Christy's eyes
When I look at her
I see blue eyes do deep
And my heart skips a beat

Christy:
His Scottish brogue
Melts my heart inside
In another's eyes

Both:
And what I don't see
How this love can be
It's a blessing and a curse, this love I abide

Both:
In another's eyes
I'm afraid that they might see
The feelings more friendship
That I've tried to fight
I hope none realize
And I pray to God they never do
That everytime you're near I'm so blue

Neil:
In Christy's eyes

Christy:
In Neil's eyes

Both:
In another's eyes

"God Rest Ye Merry Highlanders"
  by Sarabeth
(to the tune of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen)

God rest ye merry highlanders
Let no microbes ye dismay

Remember Bonnie Neil MacNeil
Shall soon be on his way

To save us all from gunshot wounds
Acquired in feuding's fray

Oh tidings of sutures and gore
Sutures and gore,
Oh tidings of sutures and gore

O little town of Christy's
  by Kerry
(to the tune of Oh little town of Bethlehem)

O little town of Christy's,
How still we see thee lie!
Our Teacher in a dreamless sleep
Sees not stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets
children rest in cold.
His everlasting Light;
Their only blanket on this cold night.

For Iris is given to Opal,
And gathered all around her,
the family lies in peace.
While mortals sleep, the cove angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together
Proclaim that chores begin!
And praises sing to Bird's Eye,
Who's moonshine warms you to the bone.

How silently, how silently,
The liquor is stored!
So safe until those blasted pigs
ruined a blessing this side of heaven.
No ear may hear his coming,
But in this world of booze,
Where meek souls will receive him, still
The dear Bird's Eye enters in.

Where children pure and happy
Drink to keep warm
Where misery cries out to thee,
"Git off my land you wretched man"
Where charity and Christy stand watching
And faith and Miss Alice hold wide the door,
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
And Tom Machone comes, shot up, once more.

O holy drink of the Cove!
Descend to us, we pray;
Wash away our sin and enter in,
Be inside us to-day.
We hear the gunshots in the woods
The bullet wounds do tell

O come to us, abide with us,
Our Mizz Christ-y

Possum roasting on an open far'
  by Kerry
(to the tune of CHESTNUTS ROASTING OVER AN OPEN FIRE )

Possum roasting on an open far'
Jack Frost nipping at your toes
Back-woodscarols being sung with a slurr
And folks dressed up for the snow.

Everybody knows a turkey and some
But no one hardly eats any, the days filled with plight.
Becki with her eyes all red and aglow
Will find it too little sleep tonight

They know that winter's on its way
And that that means lots of snow's
here to stay
And ev'ry mother's
Child is gonna spy to see if
Food will make it to the plate

And so, I'm offering this
Simple phrase to kids from
Creed to Aunt Hatie
Altho' it's been said many times
Many ways; "Merry Christmas to you"

"I Saw Teacher Kissing Preacher"
  by Sarabeth
(to the tune of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" )

"I Saw Teacher Kissing Preacher"
by the Kyle Coburn Band

By the school-house porch last night
They didn't hear me creep
So huntin' coons I got a peep

They thought they was alone underneath that night's big white moon

Then, I saw Teacher look at Preacher
Her hand on his cheek so fine

Oh what a shock it would have been
If Miz' Alice had only seen

Teacher kissin' Preacher last night

"Sweet Christy Rudd"
  by Sarabeth
(to the tune of "Sweet Caroline" )

"Sweet Christy Rudd"
as sung by Lundy Taylor

When it began
I didn't wanna be knowin'
But then my Daddy is real strong

And in the fall
He sent me to the Mission school
Who'd have believed I'd go along?

Teacher, I saw you there
Reachin' out
Smiles fer me
Flowers fer you

Sweet Christy Rudd
Book-larnin' never looked so good
Been havin' fun
Jest starin at purty Christy Rudd

And now cipherin'
Don't look so rough
When I take to gazin' at you

And in english class
I'll write down my dreams of you
"It'd pleasure me to be yer man"

Teacher yer so fine
Smellin nice
*Not* like Ruby-Mae
Like a diamond

Sweet Christy Rudd
Book larnin' never looked so good
Been havin' fun
Jest starin at purty Christy Rudd

(Repeat chorus as desired)

Bird's Eye got run over by a reindeer
  by Allysen
(to the tune of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." )

Bird's Eye got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from his still Christmas Eve
You can say there's no such thing as Karma
But as for me and Lundy, we believe.

He'd been drinking too much liquor
And we begged him not to go
But he forgot his lighted lantern
And he staggered from the fire into the snow

When we found him Christmas morning
At the scene of the attack
He had hoofprints on his forehead
and Opossum droppings on his back

Now we're all so proud of Lundy
He's been taking it so well
See him in there stealing presents
drinking and swearing
He's being really swell

It's not Christmas without Bird's Eye
all the cove is dressed in black
And we just can't holp but wonder
Should we open up the kitchen
and have a snack?

Now the possum's on the table
and the pudding made by Neil
Christy's apple pie and strudel
God bless us all, enjoy the meal

I've warned all my friends and neighbours
better watch out for you kin
they should never drink and wander
in the snow and dark without their kid!

Bird's Eye got run over by a reindeer
Walking in the woods on Christmas Eve
You can say there's no such thing as karma
But as for me and Lundy, we believe.

All I want for Christmas is some moo-oonshine
  by Kerry
(to the tune of All I want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth )

Everybody stops
and stares at me
I ain't got no teeth
as you can see.
What's to blame
for this catastrophe?
Mooonshine. Mooonshine.

All I want for christmas is
some moo-oonshine
some moo-oonshine.
if only I could have some moo-oonhsine,
then I could wish a
"Merry Christmas" to you.
It seems so long since I could walk a straight line
and touch my nose at the same time.

All I want for christmas is
some moo-oonshine
some moo-oonshine.
if only I could have some moo-oonhsine,
then I could wish a
"Merry Christmas" to you.

Mountie O'Teale
  by Chris
(to the tune of Frosty the Snowman )

Mountie O'Teale,
An Unwanted, hapless soul,
With a still windpipe
And unbuttoned coat
And two eyes as dark as coal

Down through the village
With her dolly in her hand
Dirty golden locks
All the boys threw rocks
For no one could understand.

Bridge:

They chased her round'
The old schoolground
Lundy picked up a rock-
And mountie felt the awful blow
As she heard "teacher" scream STOP!

"Oh Mountie, O'Teale
Will you ever find your way?
Yet a still small voice
Deep within your heart
Seemed to open up that day."

Mountie O'Teale
Grew to love the "teacher-girl"
Who embraced the child
Giving hugs and smiles
Kissing dirty little curls

Mountie O'Teale
who had not felt warmth or love
Knew that Christy cared
For "teacher" had dared
Offered God's love from above.

Bridge:

When finally, the teacher sat
Next to the frightened bird
Her wings grew bright
Her spirit soared
Mountie said her first brave word.

Now Mountie O'Teale
Has a new song now to sing
For a teacher's love
And a God above
They had both changed everything!!!!!

A B C D E

A B C D E

look at Mountie spell

A B C D E
A B C D E

SHE SPELL'S OH, SO WELL!!!!

"I saw Christy kissing Neil MacNeill"
  by Tamina
(to the tune of "I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus )

I saw Christy kissing Neil MacNeill
at his favorite fishing spot last night.
From my view up in the tree,
I was happy as could be!
When Neil MacNeill moved closer and kissed her tenderly.
Then I saw Christy's eyes fill up with tears,
as the Doctor fell upon one knee!
Oh what joy did fill my heart!
When Christy did her part
and became the Doctor's wife to be!!

Blue Christy Fest
  by Julie
(to the tune of Blue Christmas )

It'll be a blue Christy Fest without you;
we'll all be blue thinking about you.
Seeing Ken and the cast,
sure will be a blast,
but it won't be the same,
when you can't say your name.

It'll be a blue Christy Fest without you;
you'll be badly missed, I'm certain.
But remember your buds,
from the Christy List,
they'll be well prepared,
to fill you all in.

And then just maybe in the future,
there'll be another Christy Fest-
when we'll be able to rejoice,
as you drive through the Smokies,
on the way to meet all your Christy friends,
in Townsend, Tennessee.

Then we will no longer be blue;
for you will be at Christy Fest, too.
We'll swap howdies in real life,
walk up to see the site,
where the greatest program ever,
was filmed in real life.

And after Christy Fest is over,
we'll all be able to remember our weekend-
filled of good times, with good friends,
oh, how we wish it never would have had to end,
but then we will e-mail everyone,
and oh, the fun to recall!

Then we will no longer be blue,
for you will have been at Christy Fest, too-
as we think of all our
wonderful memories,
we'll be able to proclaim,
that we did not have a blue, blue Christy Fest.

The Night Before OPEENA
  by Allysen
(to the tune of The Night Before Christmas )

T'was the night before Opeena and all through the night,
Opeena was stirring, just looking for a fight.
Regina has hung all the noisemakers with care,
in hopes that Opeena will take that dang dare.
The kitty was nestled all snug in her bed,
while visions of possums all fought in her head.
And Hubby in his undies, and I in my shirt,
had just settled down, hoping 'gina wouldn't be hurt.
When out in the yard there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed, to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew as though blind,
Tore open the curtains and what did I find?
And what to my wondering eyes should appear?
It's Opeena, the possum, and she's carrying a beer!
With little fast movements, this possum so quick,
I knew in a moment, this freak made me sick.
More rabid than coons, her little children, they came,
and she whistled and shouted and called them by name.
Come Road Kill, Vermina, Grossina, and Vomit,
Now Killer, Ferocious, come Fatty, and Masshitt.
To the top of the garbage, to the top of the tin,
Now eat it all, eat it all, slurp it all in.
Banana peels, egg shells, and coffee grinds, too,
Milk cartons, jelly jars, cantaloupe rinds, too.
Hurry now children, hurry and get through,
Made me sick to my stomach, just thinking, eeeewwww.
And then in a flurry comes a pack of wild dogs,
and that possum singlehandedly routes them like hogs.
as I drew in my head and was turning around,
here comes that old beer bottle bouncing around.
That Opeena, the possum, her fur which was mat,
and dripping from her nose was old bacon fat.
Her eyes, how they gleamed: her glaring how scary,
Her lips were pulled back, revealing teeth that were hairy.
She tottered, she teerered, she wobbled, she wiggled,
she fell when she ran and her children all giggled.
The stump of a tree she held tight in her teeth,
and her kids all gagged when they smelt her foulness beneath.
She had a broad face, and a fat little belly,
that shook when she was mad or saw something smelly.
She was chubby and plump, a right smelly old thing,
and I stiffened when she saw me, the eerieness it did bring.
She spoke only one word and went straight to her work,
"Regina", she said and she turned with a jerk.
And laying a paw along side of her nose,
she followed Regina's scent, which smelled like a rose.
She sprang to the roadside, to her kids gave a shout,
and away they all runned like a boy or girl scout.
But I heard her exclaim, 'ere she ran out of sight,
Beware to Regina, I will hunt you all night.

Opeena Is Coming to Town
  by Regina
(to the tune of Santa Claus Is Coming to TownThe Night Before Christmas )

Opeena Is Coming to Town

You'd better watch out.....
You'd better not speak.....
You'd better not pout....
Or she'll sense you are weak.....
Opeeeeeeeena is comin' to town.

She's got fleas and mange
And large ugly teeth
She's a vermin and not very neat
Opeeeeeena is comin' to town.

She sees you when you're sleeping..
She runs when you're awake.
She wants to run the world you know......
And your leftovers she'll take.

Oh............
You'd better watch out...
You'd better not speak.....
You'd better not pout or she'll sense you are weak...
Opeena is comin' to town
Opeena is comin' to town
Opeena is comin' toooooooooooo tooooowwwwwwwwnnn.

Deck the mission
  by Elizabeth
(to the tune of Deck the Halls )

Deck the mission with boughs of holly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
'Tis the season to be jolly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Ruby Mae a constant chatter.
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la
Fairlight sings a song of Christmas.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
See the students running round.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Neil and Christy join the song.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Soon their dancing round and round.
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la
David underneath the mistletoe.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
All alone he sits and watches.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Soon she sees and smiles at him Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Soon Christy dances with him.
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la
Smiles all around the room.
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Til Margaret stops by
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-hee-haw

"She Came Upon A Snowy Morn"
  by Erin
(to the tune of It Came Upon A Midnight Clear )

She came upon a snowy morn
Her cheeks all flushed with cold
The shoes and dre-e-ess that she wore
Showed of her wealth untold
Peace in the cove was not to be
Since teacher came to stay
But children all around Cutter Gap
Found a best friend that day

"O Little Town of Cutter Gap"
  by Erin
(to the tune of O Little Town of Bethlehem )

O little town of Cutter Gap how still we see thee lie
Without the squeek of possums for they're baked in Ruby's pie
Yet from the darkened schoolhouse, a frightening peal erupts
For underneath the floo-orboards are Singer Lee's pups

O little town of Cutter Gap with only one light on
It's Doc MacNeills in his old lab a-working hard till dawn
Yet in the mission house a muffled sound is heard
It's just Miss Ida cleaning up upon my very word!

O little town of Cutter Gap from up above we see
A bright young woman gazing 'roung upon the balcony
And on the nearby front porch, another pond'ring mind
It's Rev'rend Grantland searching for his soul mate soon to find

O little town of Cutter Gap although it's not so clear
Your beauty and your quaintness are apparent to all here
Despite your big ol' mud hole, and torrential rain
You're the bestest cove around hip hip hooray hooray!

"Cutter Gap Carol"
  by Erin
(to the tune of Coventry Carol )

Winter has set upon the cove
Bringing its icy chill
The warmth that floodeth from above
Shall not this land now fill

Harvest has not faired well this year
There is not near 'nough food
But let us pray that god be here
Filling us as he would

Children with naught a shoe to wear
Turkey Creek's frozen through
But of each other take great care
And to dear God be true

So dwell ye not my child on gloom
Swee-ee-tly dream and see
Persimmons trees and lilac blooms
Warmer days soon to be

Cutter Gap
  by Nita
(to the tune of "Jingle bells" )

Dashing though the snow
in Dr. MacNeill`s sleigh
Though Cutter gap we go,
Kissing all the way (Smooch, smooch)
Bells on Neil`s horse ring
Making Teacher`s heart light
O! what fun it is to have Margaret out of the way!

Cutter gap, Cutter gap,
Riding in a sleigh,
O! what fun it is to ride
beside Neil all the way! Hey!

BRING A TORCH, LIZETTE AND VELLA
  by June
(to the tune of BRING A TORCH JEANETTE ISABELL )

Bring a torch, Lizette and Vella,
Bring a torch, to the church house, run!
Miz Christy and Preacher have planned a program,
Make haste, it will be such fun!

There will be songs and smiles and recitations,
Little Burl will be Joseph and Mountie is Mary,
We will all have a real celebration
Quick! Light the torch and you will see!

Creed and Sam Houston and Orter will be wise men from the east
Bringing gifts to the Christ Child, so blessed and fair!
Rob and Smith and brother Jake will be shepherds at least
Hurry, now, I think we're almost there!

Come, all folks of Cutter Gap with me,
Bring your lanterns and hurry; it's time!
Hush as you gather around the holy scene,
See the Christ Child who lives for all mankind!
