INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
STEP ONE
Lower the spare tire for access to the winch mechanism and frame cross-member. Note that the winch mechanism is mounted inside the C-channel frame cross-member. A 3/8" mounting hole must be drilled in the crossmember to install the mounting bracket.
STEP TWO
Place a piece of masking tape over the inside surface of the frame cross-member and mark the location of the mounting hole as shown. The center of the mounting hole is located one inch from the left rear inside edge of the cross-member and down 2-9/16 inches from the edge of the winch mechanism. Using a power drill and eye protection, drill the 3/8 inch mounting hole to attach the bracket to the frame cross-member. |
STEP THREE
Use the provided 3/8" bolt, lock nut and two flat washers to attach the U-bracket to the frame cross-member. Position the U-bracket with the upper left corner against the inside edge of the cross-member. Install the lock bar through both legs of the U-bracket, with the grooved end facing toward the rear of the vehicle. Place the crimp-ring retainer in the groove and crimp closed with pliers. The distance between the winch cable and the locking bar should be 3-1/8" if the bracket is positioned correctly. Rotate bracket to adjust for proper distance, as needed.
STEP FOUR
Raise the spare tire allowing the lower end of lock bar to pass through the lug hole least obstructed by the winch cable retaining plate in the center of the wheel. The locking bar must remain vertical as spare tire is returned to the full up/stored position. |
SPECIAL BLACK MAX INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:(1) Remove the key from the lock cylinder. (2)Place the Black Max lock assembly over the end of the locking bar with the bar cover/seal end up. (3)Slide the lock assembly upward until the bar cover/seal is compressed in the tapered surface of the lug hole.
