Odds are against handsome, hot-tempered Neekos Valdez (Esai Morales), a 17-year-old Latino kid living in the streets, into drug abuse and petty crime. But Neekos' fighting spirit keeps him alive on the tough city streets. When an aborted attempt to steal a car radio fails, Neekos is trapped beneath a car and dragged for miles until he is miraculously spun free. The bizarre accident lands him in the hospital, where it is discovered he has cancer. Confined to a Cancer Hospital as a ward of the city, Neekos denies his illness and generally disrupts the hospital routine. After countless run-ins with the head nurse (Carrie Snodgress), the cancer specialist (Janice Rule) and the social worker, Neekos escapes to the streets to face life alone...sick, hunted and haunted. An ex-fighter pilot and war hero (Chuck Bail), suffering himself from the deadly disease, comes to Neekos' rescue. As the unlikely friendship develops, the two brave warriors struggle for life and self in a heartwarming story of coming out a winner.
