Trinidad and Tobago won on points but could have scored a knock out blow by one or two goals. Gary Glasgow, Clint Marcelle and Stern John could not find the target in the end-to-end action during the second half. Bertile St. Clair deserves much of the credit for putting together a game plan to match the Jamaicans. The T&T squad had not practiced together for sometime and demonstrated that they were equal to the task set by the Jamaicans.
The first half was basically uneventful. Gary Glasgow had a good run when he ran past defender Dawes, cut past another and shot directly to goalie Aaron Lawrence. Clint Marcelle had a typical game with some sharp turns around the penalty area. The whistle sounded the end of a dull first half.
In the second half T&T began to assert it's dominance. Marcelle made some good runs. Just a few minutes into the second period Marcelle caught the Jamaican defense napping. He raced into the box and headed straight towards the goal. He was knocked over by a Jamaican defender in the penalty area. However, the St. Lucian referee said that there was no infraction. Dale Saunders made a run down the right side and crossed the ball to a over to a unmarked Stern John. However, John's header sailed past the far post. Jamaica had a chance to open the scoring when Harris shot over the bar and was then denied by Clayton Ince after working a one-two with Fitzroy Simpson. Despite the pressure by the Jamaicans most of the chances still fell to the Calypso boys. Glasgow's chance to score was smothered by the Jamaican goalkeeper and Terry St.Louis blasted a shot over bar after a back heal from Peter Prosper.
With the tie each team has won one game and tied two this year.
