Joe Public completed their first victory of the Craven A Professional Football League with a 3-1 defeat of Central side Doc's Khelwalaas at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya when second round action began yesterday.

On a day in which four of six goals were scored by way of penalty kicks, Police and Futgof battled to a 1-1 draw in the second match at PSA Grounds, Long Circular, St James.

Former St Anthony's College midfielder Sean Cooper gave Futgof an18th minute lead from the penalty spot but Police rallied back with former national striker Dexter Cyrus ensuring a share of the points, also with a penalty.

At Macoya, having scored an impressive 5-2 victory against Point Fortin Civic Centre in their first match at the highest level of local football on Wednesday, Doc's came out with the right attitude against their opponents yesterday.

They however faltered in their bid to upset last year's Semi-Professional champions.

Doc's were faced with an early roar from the "Eastern Lions" who went ahead in the sixth minute through national striker Irasto Knights.

Starting alongside Arnold Dwarika, Knights received a square pass from his fellow national striker from the right side of the 18-yard box before hitting a left-footer from six yards past Doc's custodian Ron Alfred.

The second half saw Doc's coming out with their guns blazing leaving Public in their half of the field for much of the opening minutes.

Eventually they were rewarded with a penalty, awarded by referee Robin Murray for an off the ball incident.

Jermaine Scott made sure from the spot hitting a left-footer past McCommie, who had no chance despite diving the right way.

Doc's were now putting up a fight and almost surged ahead when Scott's free kick with the outer half of his left foot forced McCommie to tip over bar soon after.

Then in the 74th minute Murray awarded the second penalty of the match, calling up Louie Johnson for pushing Dwarika on the run inside the 18-yard box.

The Joe Public skipper comfortably converted the kick to put his side 2-1 up.

Seven minutes later, Eve delivered the final roar, easily heading past the 'keeper from a Velox left sided cross.

Today, southerners W Connection play their home opener against fellow South team PFCC at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre from 6:00 pm.
