W Connection came away with a well-earned 2-1 victory over Joe Public in yesterday's fourth round action of the Craven A Professional Football League at Dr Joao Havelange Concacaf Centre of Excellence, Macoya.

The win pushed them to top of the standings on 12 points ahead of Defence Force (nine points) who were stunned 3-2 by Police at Petrotrin Ground, Fyzabad.

Point Fortin Civic Centre also snatched their first three points for the season with a 3-1 shut-out of CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh in another match at Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin.

At Macoya, the southerners led by the return of national player Reynold Carrington from suspension, were simply too hot to handle.

In a match which began at dusk (lights went out on two occasions - during the half time interval and then 11 minutes into the second half), Connection left their opponents in dire straits with two well executed goals from Carrington and Atiba Charles.

Play was delayed for at least 20 minutes in the second session.

Carrington netted in the 43rd minute, unleashing a right-footed scorcher past 'keeperMichael McCommie from just inside the area.

Public found the equaliser just before the half time whistle when Arnold Dwarika positioned just inside the 18-yard box, neatly hit a grounder into the right corner of the net past a string of opposing defenders, leaving them without a clue of what had happened.

The eventual winner arrived in the 17th minute of the second half when McCommie failed to hold a Carrington left side corner and was penalised by an Atiba Charles header.
