Army face 'Eastern Lions'

LOCAL generals Joe Public and Defence Force meet for the first time this season when they clash at Hasely Crawford Stadium from 4:00 pm in the last match of the fifth round in the Craven A Professional Football League.

This clash is expected to showcase a good brand of football as Public, last year's league champions, and the Army, long-time favourites, will be taking the opportunity to narrow the gap between themselves and newcomers W Connection, who at present sit at the top of the table with a maximum 15 points.

Though its still early days in the competition there should be no furrowing of brows about whether Errol McFarlane or Public's Jamaal Shabaaz will pick their strongest sides.

It may work to Public's advantage that they were given an early season scare by Connection last week. It should have humbled them a little. Skipper Arnold Dwarika will be hoping for better things today from the likes of Terry St Louis, Kendall Velox, Angus Eve and Irasto Knights.

The soldiers meanwhile seemed to have been gathering momentum, but were ground to a standstill with their 3-2 defeat by Police in their last round.

Hutson "Barber " Charles will need his men to get back to winning ways and Jason Scotland, Granville Millington, Dean Pacheco, Dexter Lee and Anton Pierre will have their share of the work laid out to do so. A victory today will be most welcomed ahead of their next round outing against Connection.

The Army are currently in second spot with nine points followed by the "Easter Lions" on seven, Doc's Khelwalaas (six points), Point Fortin Civic Centre (six points), CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh (four points). Police (four points) and Futgof (one point).
