Despite missing the services of national strikers Irasto Knights, on trial in the United States, and Angus Eve banned for one match, the Eastern Lions swept the Oilmen aside.

A hat-trick by Vincentian striker Kendall Velox (50th, 51st and 53rd minutes) and further items by Wesley John (25th) Stokely Mason (39th), Cyd Gray (67th), Arnold Dwarika (77th) and an own goal by Andrew Dickson (85th) sunk the southerners.

Civic Centre had earlier taken the lead through Russell Pope in the 20th minute.

Their custodian Fitzgerald Dick was involved in a clash with Public's Cyd Gray in the 30th minute, who had to be stretchered off but later returned to the action.

However, Dick felt his share of pain six minutes later and had to be replaced by Selwyn George in goal.

From then on it turned out to be a dark day for the Black City boys as their opponents went on to score more goals than the six they had in their previous five matches.

During the opening half hour, it appeared that the match would turn out to be a tightly contested one with both teams holding their own.

Mason put his side 2-1 ahead with a low shot outside the 18-yard box into the left hand corner of the net past an outstretched George.

Following the halftime interval, the fun begun for Velox and his fellow Lions.

In the 50th minute, Dwarika headed a ball into the path of Velox who slammed a left footer into the net.

One minute later, Velox punished George for failing to hold onto Mason's cross and then the Vincentian's right side left footed corner ended in the back of the net after George awkwardly parried it in for a 5-1 Public lead.

Gray then shot through George's legs from a Dwarika pass for the sixth item.

Skipper Dwarika joined the scorers' list with a header almost on the penalty spot from a right side corner.

Civic Centre's misery on the day ended when defender Andrew Dickson turned in Mason's cross into his own net to make it 8-1.

Public remain in third spot on 10 points behind leaders W Connection (18 points) and Defence Force (12 points)
