No let up for W Connection
by Shaun Fuentes

JUST OVER two weeks have  elapsed since their arrival at the highest level. But already W Connection are showing  they will be a force to be reckoned with in the Craven A Professional Football League.

The southern-based W Connection have scooted to the top of the standings with 12 points following their  2-1 victory over last year's semi-pro league champions Joe Public at Dr Joao Havelange CONCACAF Centre of Excellence, Macoya.

This have left them ahead of Defence Force (nine points), Public (seven points), Doc's Khelwalaas (six points) CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh (four points),  Police (four points)  Point Fortin Civic Centre (three points) and Futgof (one point) in that order.

Club president David John Williams and coach Stuart Charles Fevrier of St Lucia could not have been more pleased with the result, returning to the stands with their neatly attired team members to view the second match of Wednesday night's double-header between Doc's Khelwalaas and Futgof.

"It's always nice to win, but that's not the championship and we've got to meet them (Public) three times again this season," said Williams. "The guys are confident, but we'll be taking one game at a time. You never know when you'll have a bad day."

Recognising that all eyes are now on his team, Williams has refused to get carried away, pointing out that the other teams will be coming harder at W Connection."The win has opened a lot of eyes and just makes our lives a little harder. It's important that we dig deep so as to continue giving a good account of ourselves."Williams said he was hopeful that his team will continue to improve. "That's what the professional league is all about."

Their next test will be Saturday against Khelwalaas at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.
Led by the return of national player Reynold Carrington, who had the old onion bag shaking with a rocket in the 43rd minute on Wednesday, the likes of Lyndon Andrews, Sherwyn Julien, Wesley Webb, St Lucians Earl Jean and Titus Elva all did their part in making the evening a miserable one for Joe Public.

When Dwarika tied the scores before half-time the game appeared well balanced, but an eventual winner by Atiba Charles separated both teams at the end of 90 minutes.
