Footnote

CPT John C. Ausland, now deceased, also a former officer in the 29th Field Artillery during World War II, wrote many articles which are available on this web site! He was a very close friend of Bill Sydnor, and recounts many of their experiences during the war in his book "Letters Home: A War Memoir", and in it he recounts this brief story about Bill:

While in the Huertgen Forest, during the Battle of the Bulge, Bill personally captured a German prisoner! The German soldier, literally fell into Bill's slit trench, and into his lap!
