Altars for the Day of the Dead are important elements to the celebration as they are the places were the dead are remembered with photographs, food, candles, flowers, holy images and prayers. The living create altars in the home in memory of loved ones who have gone on to the next world. They also will visit in the cemetary with the spirits of loved ones who have gone on befor them and sit, pray and visit in the cemetery with food and candles and mayby a sweet sugar skull to nibble on while they wait with the spirits.
