The Obligatory Reading List

Eventually, I hope to include reading lists from other folks here, perhaps from someone whose work you know. Meanwhile, what follows is a literay playlist of sorts and yet another request for feedback, requests, recommendations, and contributions.

Prose

On the Road, Jack Kerouac - delivers poetic/prophetic nonsense in drug induced haze as promised
The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand - Learn to celebrate your own creative power or, self-help is the only sort of help there is - See some echoes of this in this week's Soapbox
The Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff -Most recently finished - 150 pages of Pooh, Taoist master
The Hotel New Hampshire, John Irving - Comes highly recommended - passed first read test. Now 100 or so pages in - a living, breathing cavalcade of characters you've never met yet somehow know.
A Confederacy of Dunces, John Kennedy Toole - All the rage amongst the philosophers at
Vanderbilt U. (And everyone knows philosophers get all the jokes)

Poetry

Maya Angelou: Poems, Maya Angelou - lyrical and alive, vulgar and sublime - try it
The Spirit Level, Seamus Heaney - savor Ireland and crisply crafted images with a Nobel Laureate

Non-fiction

A Leg to Stand on, Oliver Sacks - Just finished - a trip into the brilliance of Sacks' own terror and joy when the patient is him
