Points Scored: Washington Redskins 738, St. Louis Rams 542
Punters Mike Bragg of Washington and Pat Studstill of LA were involved in a punting duel for much of the first half, interrupted only by an exchange of field goals. Bragg was getting the better of the exchanges until Willie Ellison led a jailbreak and got to a Bragg punt just off the kicker's toe and scrambled for the recovery at the Washington 22. After two plays and three penalties on Washington—one of those penalties nullified an end zone interception by Pat Fischer--Roman Gabriel threw a one-yard scoring pass to tight end Bob Klein and the Rams were up 10-6. With the Rams up 10-6 in the fourth, the defense forced the Rams to punt and the Redskins took possession at their own six. Deacon Jones had 3 sacks and forced 4 Sonny to get rid of the ball too early. Soon after that, though, cornerback Jim Nettles cut in front of a pass intended for Charley Taylor at the Washington 39 and returned it to the one. Although a clipping penalty forced the Rams to put the ball in play at the spot of the interception, the Rams moved in for the kill. It came on Ellison's one-yard touchdown run with just 3:31 left.

Both teams played each other just two weeks earlier on a Monday Night with the Redskins winning 23-17.
Over 80,000 were at the Los Angeles Coliseum to witness the first Ram home playoff game since 1955.
James Harris took over for John Hadl as the Ram QB in the fourth week of the season on his way to becoming the NFC's number two ranked passer.
Harris got the Ram offense untracked by hitting Harold Jackson on a picture perfect 35 yard strike that gave the Rams a first down on the Redskin 14 yard line.
Two plays later, Harris hit TE Bob Klein in the endzone and the Rams had a 7-0 lead after one quarter.
Billy Kilmer countered with a 41 yard pass to Charley Taylor. The drive stalled on the Rams 18 yard line and Mike Bragg hit a 37 yard FG to make the score 7-3 Rams.
With less than 2 minutes to go in the half, Washington put together a 10 play 73 yard drive.
With the ball on the Rams one yard line, RB Moses Denson took it in to give the Redkins a 10-7 halftime lead.
The beginning of the third quarter, the Rams started to changed their defensive schemes that proved to be successful.
Two David Ray field goals gave the Rams a 13-10 lead with less than 5 minutes to go in the game.
Then Sonny Jurgenson replaced Billy Kilmer at QB.
Five times in the 1974 season, Sonny brought the Redskins from behind to win in the fourth quarter, can he do it again?
Jurgenson was rushed hard and threw up a balloon that Isiah Robertson snatched and ran it back for a 59 yard TD.
And in just one play, Isiah Robertson
vaulted the Rams into their first title game since 1951 with a 19-10 victory.
First Quarter LA--TD Klein 10 pass from Harris (Ray kick) Was--FG Bragg 35 yards Second Quarter Was--TD Denson 1 run (Bragg kick) Third Quarter LA--FG Ray 37 yards Fourth Quarter LA--FG Ray 26 yards LA--TD Robertson 59 interception return (conversion failed)
The Rams feasted on Redskin mistakes, many of them coming on special teams, to pull off the upset win.
The Rams scored on a fumble return and a kickoff return and had to drive just two yards for another TD after a blocked punt to "build" their 23-16 halftime lead.
The Redskins couldn't quite catch up as a foray to the LA nine in the late going came up empty
